PREPARATION WORKS

The client and local water authorities would be informed of the testing in advance.

All necessary tools and equipment including all necessary safety accessories will be checked for working condition and mobilized to the site.

The pipe intended for immediate testing would be inspected for cleanliness prior to the test. All valves to be installed and inspected for serviceability, and all bolts would also be properly tightened and inspected.

The butterfly / sluice valve at the upstream end of the intended test section of the pipeline is to be closed. The downstream end is temporarily blank flanged.

A pressure gauge would be installed at one of the double air valve to be replaced temporarily.

WORK METHOD

The pressure / strength test can then be performed by gradually filling the pipe section with clean water that is free of sediment, contaminant and pollutant via the upstream end.

Once the section is completely filled with water, additional water is pumped into the section to raise the pressure slowly in increments of 10m head with a pause of 1 minute for each increment to attain the specified full test pressure of 90m head.

The pressure gauge is read during the pauses. If pressure drop is observed then the cause shall be determined and rectified, and process 3.2 shall repeat.

Visual inspection is also to be carried out to observe for any displacement, especially at the joints and bends that might occur along the section.

The pressure / strength test shall considered passed if the pressure gauge shows no reduction in pressure during the abovementioned 1 minute pauses, and also a further 10 minutes after the full test pressure is achieved.
