Methylcobalamin (MB12) Nasal Spray Summary - by: Stan Kurtz- Autism, ADHD, asthma, eczema, and chronic fatigue recoveryChildren'sCornerMB12 Nasal Spray SummaryWritten by: Stan Kurtz - Father and Independent ResearcherThis is a DRAFT document - updated 03/16/07About MB12 (Methylcobalamin) Nasal SprayMB12 Nasal Spray was developed by Stan Kurtz, an independent researcher andfather of a child who recovered from autism. Stan does not financially benefitfrom the use of MB12 and does not have a known conflict of interest relating tothe information in this document..The first use of MB12 in the subcutaneous injection form was by Dr. JamesNeubrander, who through the work of Richard Deth Phd and Jill James Phd onoxidative stress and methionine synthase discovered it was helpful to manychildren with autism.Stan Kurtz had a philosophy of trying everything on himself that he would try onhis son, and when he tried MB12 injections, it so happened that his symptoms ofIrritable Bowel Syndrome and Attention Deficit where immediately greatlydiminished.Through further research coordinated with Autism Research Institute, Standiscovered that intranasal administration of MB12 worked extremely well. Thereis also published literature that supports that intranasal spray of cobalaminvitamins is similar in efficacy to intravenous (IV) administration and that it

can have a cobalamin normalizing effect that other administrations do not seemto have.Medical LiteratureMethylcobalamin has been documented in the medical literature to help improveoxidative status in children with autism (which likely does the same for manyother conditions),it is said to be a novel antiviral for AIDS, helpful infighting cancer, peripheral neuropathy, autonomic disregulation, it can helpimprove DNA methylation, nerve regeneration, and many other conditions.ObservationsBased on videos that Stan has published of trials of MB12, if the person is aMB12 Responder, it also appears to often (and at times dramatically) help with:ADHD symptomsMemory

Effects of MB12 Nasal SprayTypically the effects of MB12 Nasal Spray begin to occur within minutes of theapplication. An experiment on QEEG activity showed that MB12 Nasal Spray workedalmost instantly. On video, Stan has recorded many subjects feeling better inminutes and sometimes seconds. Besides autism, which can have both immediateand long-term benefits, most people report that any improvements from MB12 occurwithin the first hour of administration. The typical administration seems to last about 24 hours, but every person isdifferent. Some people seem to become depleted of available MB12 in hours, others seem to feel the benefits for days. Quite often the need for MB12 NasalSpray decreases as time goes on. Additionally, the reduction of milk and wheatproducts, lessening complex carbohydrates and starches and improvements tointestinal flora will commonly lessen the need for MB12. Some people have

reported that their need for MB12 completely diminishes over time.QEEG ActivityIn March of 2006, MB12 Nasal Spray was shown to seemingly normalize brain wavesof a 23 year old with DSM-IV Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Testingincluded pre testing and 3 post tests including one immediately afteradministration. All test showed a dramatic lessoning of theta wave activity(3.5-7.5 Hz), which is common in attention challenges, and activity in theentire brain increased, while the subject was observed to be more relaxed andattentive while ocular twittering was greatly reduced. A more detailed reportof this experiment is available here. This experiment was monitored by JackJohnstone PhD from Q-Metrx.

UCLA Study of MB12 Nasal SprayStan began meeting with the ADHD research team at UCLA to present his finding onMB12 Nasal Spray. After much work, an IRB approved pilot study of MB12 NasalSpray is being conducted by UCLA for people with ADHD and addiction.SPECT ActivityIn March of 2007, MB12 Nasal Spray was shown to seemingly greatly improve brainblood flow of a 53 year old mom of two children with autism and personallystuggling with fibromyalgia, depression, and symptoms of brain fog, troublefinding words, memory issues, attention issues and several other chronicsymptoms. Along with other possible abnormalities, the baseline test shows asignificant amount of hypoprofusion (reduced blood flow) in the temporal, frontal and prefrontal lobes. In the post testing, this individual was sprayed

with MB12 Nasal Spray 50 minutes prior to the SPECT isotope being administered. In addition to the obvious temporal lobe improvement, the frontal lobesdramatically normalized (see the black circle markers on the interactive view). This experiment was monitored by J. Michael Uszler M.D. at Santa Monica Imaging.

Why Intranasal? In an informal study, on location at Great Plains Laboratories , we were unableto raise MB12 levels significantly in individuals using sublingual

administration. Many anecdotal reports show that responders of MB12 Nasal Spraytypically do not respond to sublingual or oral use. Out of thousands of MB12reports from the group http://health.groups.yahoo.com/ only a few people havereported benefits from sublingual MB12. Some researchers suspect certain SNPand associated enzyme activity prevents the metabolism from gaining access toMB12 through sublingual or oral administration. We believe that a deficiency ofcertain types of bacteria in the intestinal flora and mucosa to have a possiblerole as well. Either way, intranasal MB12 is anecdotally suggested by users andsuggested in the cobalamin medical literature.Intranasal vs. ShotsIn the adult community of ADHD and chronic illness we believe that intranasalspray is the best method of application. In the autism community it seems thatthere are four types of responders to MB12.1. People who respond better to Nasal Spray MB122. People who respond better to Sub-Q (sub-cutaneous) Shot MB123. People who respond to either4. People who respond to neitherDr. Jim Neubrander, the pioneer of the MB12 shot, believes that more childrenwith autism will respond to the MB12 Sub-Q injection compared to MB12 spray. Inour health group we see more reports of people with autism responding better tothe spray. We have a new ongoing poll for people who wish to vote. These are the

current standings comparing MB12 spray to shots (2/07).

Our suggestion for people with autism is to consider a trial of both and seewhich works better for the particular child. For people with ADHD and othertypes of chronic illness, the spray is likely the best option.Nasal Spray AnecdotesIn addition to the MB12 recovery videos at http://www.recoveryvideos.com/ thatshow almost instant improvement, there are hundreds of reports on our health weblistserve and a short public list as well. Literally thousands of people havealready tried MB12 Nasal Spray.Additional Symptoms That May Indicate Use

White coated tongue, ocular stress (eye twittering), night vision challenges, food sensitivities, chemical sensitivities, fatigue, chronic stress, frequentviral infections, previous ear or throat infections, trouble sleeping or wakingup in the morning, difficulty maintaining weight and... more to come.Family History That May Indicate UseBorn to a mother who smoked during pregnancy or a close family member withautoimmune issues or cancer.PurchasingToday, many autism friendly and developmental disorders focused compoundpharmacies carry MB12 nasal spray. The first pharmacy to compound MB12 for Stanwas Coastal Compounding Pharmacy. http://www.coastalcompounding.com/ phone:866.354.5188 fax: 912.355.3685.

MB12 Nasal Spray presently requires a prescription when acquired in the UnitedStates. Doctors who typically agree to prescribe MB12 are doctors who arewilling to try a non-medication remedy for illness. If your doctor does notwish to prescribe MB12 Nasal Spray, you can find a doctor who has commonlyprescribed it for autism and related conditions a the Autism ResearchInstitutes Website, US practitioners listhttp://www.autismwebsite.com/ARI/dan/danusdis.htm or outside the US athttp://www.autismwebsite.com/ARI/dan/danforeigndis.htmMB12 is typically about $40 dollars for a bottle that lasts about 45-90 daysbased on the dosage and how often it is administrated.

Typical Dosing and AdministrationNote: I am not a doctor and I do not give out medical advice. I am the inventorof this therapy, but I am mainlly a parent who is just sharing information basedon my own experience with my child and as a moderator of MB12Valtrex where manyfamilies talk about their experiences. Every person is different and should betreated as an individual. Some doctors have expressed a concern about me statingspecific dosages of medications, so I will refrain from doing so in generalterms. What I will do is mention some dosages that Coastal Compounding has madefor different people. For specific dosing information, please speak to anenlightened, biomedically focused doctor. For a list of doctors please visithttp://www.autism.com/For Adults (commonly made by autism friendly compounding pharmacies)1250mcg of MB12 together with 100mcg of folinic acid per .1ml spray once in eachnostril once per day. MB12 is concentrated at 12.5mg/ml and the folinic is1mg/mlNote: There is presently a study being conducted at UCLA for MB12 Nasal Sprayfor ADHD and the dosing for that study is 1250mcg of MB12 one spray in eachnostril. For Children (commonly made by autism friendly compounding pharmacies)625mcg of MB12 together with 50mcg of folinic acid once per day.We suggest taking MB12 after a meal, preferably breakfast (since it can provide

a feeling of energy throughout the day). For young children who are sensitiveto nasal sprays, some families administer it at night while the child issleeping. Some people do initial trials later in the after noon when they begin to feeltired, so they can better feel the difference pre and post spray. Our original dosing was 1250mcg MB12 and 300mcg of folinic per spray. Somepeople believe that 300 mcg is preferred, but we have seen less reaction tofolinic acid with starting at 100mcg. We believe people with autism may have agreater sensitivity (but still may have a need) for folinic acid and we stronglysuggest starting at a lower doage of folinic (or just the MB12 by itself) beforeincreasing the folinic dosage.

Adjusting the Dosage for the Specific IndividualFor biochemical, physiological and environmental reasons, each persons need forMB12 is different. We suggest you use as little as you need to get the desiredresults. Using more does not mean better results. Taking a break from time totime or trying to space out your administration is a good practice to make sureyou are not administering too much.NoteFolinic Acid is typically a wonderful addition to methylcoblamin. It often aidsin the utilization of MB12 and tends to hold it in the body for a greater periodof time. That said, if any hyperactivity or negative symptoms seem to occur, you might want to try the spray without the folinic acid.

Application TipsPrime the bottle before administration. If you can, tilt the head slightly downward so angle of bottle is vertical. Then squirt deep into the nasal passage so that little or no MB12 comesrunning out.The liquid is red like beets or blood, so if some drips out, it may look likeblood. MB12 is very gentle and it is very unlikely it could cause anosebleed. There are a certain amount of children with autism who frequentlyhave nose bleeds (in general, not from MB12) and for those children you maywant to consider supplementing with Vitamin K.

Some persons report having increased results when also supplementing withzinc, Omega 3 EFAs like Cod Liver Oil, other B Vitamins like B6 and P5P, B2,and B5, Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin A, D, and K, Taurine and Selenium. If a child is ultra sensitive to sensory stimulus, you may want to leave thebottle out of the refrigerator before application of the spray or spray. Somepeople with sensitive children spray their child at night while they aresleeping. If an individual is encountering an acute illness or a particularly difficultacute set of symptoms, increasing a daily dose may be beneficial, but keep inmind that longer term use at a higher dosage may work against you.

Reported ContraindicationsWe do not know of contraindications of MB12, but we suspect MB12 and/or folinicacid may act as a potent anti-tumor agent, but may NOT be indicated for somepeople with certain types of leukemia.Possible Side EffectsA minority of people encounter temporary hyperactivity after dosing MB12. Manypeople continue its use unless the hyperactivity continues. A small amount ofpeople may not tolerate MB12 well and get headaches from usage, which we suggestdiscontinuing further use and trying other types of detoxification first. Otherunlikely but possible indications that MB12 is not being well tolerated mightinclude:Feeling cranky or sleepy, especially if taken on an empty stomach

Feeling hyperactive, which may be a reaction to folinic. Typically thishappens to a minority of children with autism.Rare nighttime incontinence with some autistic children (who we believe aredetoxifying metals at the beginning of MB12 use).
