Who is MetLife Defender? MetLife is the shortened version for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. They were established in 1868 and you can find their corporate offices in New York. MetLife currently services more than 90 million people located in 60+ countries all around the world. They are one of the largest providers for employee benefit programs, insurance and annuities. You can recognize MetLife Defender from afar by their brand icon Snoopy from the comic strip Peanuts.

MetLife Defender has different angles to their identity theft protection plan. They protect you on a financial, personal information, health and children front. You get one-bureau credit monitoring, internet scanning, lost wallet services, identity recovery services and more when you sign up. We also like that they have services to take you off of pre-approval offer and junk mail lists. Another plus to MetLife is that they have earned an A+ with the Better Business Bureau which shows good credibility.

One of the minor things we noticed about MetLife is that they present their identity theft information so nicely on their website. In other words, it is very user-friendly and anyone can find the information they want or need. We also like that they provide special features for children in a family plan. This includes cyber predator protection, child identity theft scanning and protection and cyber-bullying detection. This is very unique to MetLife, and you won’t find many other companies that offer these child-specific, identity theft protection features. Upon signup with MetLife, you can try it for free for 30 days.

MetLife defender is missing a antivirus subscription to their plan, which we count as 8 percent towards a company’s overall score. Antivirus software is just another strong form of protection that can help consumers when they are most vulnerable on the internet while using their computer at home. Another key component that MetLife lacks is their proof to show they have earned a CISSP certificate. This certificate gives a company great credibility in their knowledge in the identity theft and security industry.

Another  downside  to  MetLife  Defender  is  that  their  monthly  pricing  is  so  expensive.    For  individuals  it  costs  $22.95/month  and  $45.95/month  for  families.      One  thing  that  takes  a  toll  on  their  Overall  Score  with  BIDTC  is  that  no  past  or  present  customer  has  leJ  a  user  review  for  MetLife  on  their  company  profile.    This  secLon  is  very  important  because  it  gives  potenLal  customers  a  second  opinion,  next  to  our  Expert  opinion.    This  accounts  for  15  percent  of  their  Overall  Score.

MetLife Defender seems to have a good identity theft protection product, but it isn’t the best. MetLife has always been an insurance provider and has only recently offered services for identity protection. This leads us to believe that their product isn’t as good as companies that have specialized in the industry for 10 or more years. Unless you are already a member of MetLife Defender, we would suggest looking for another company that has more features for a cheaper price. You could even sign your whole family up for ID protection for less than $23/month with another company (which is MetLife’s current individual price).
