Explore the various ways cartoonists develop ideas, from one-panel gag strips to full narratives. We‘ll cover a range of topics, including character development for storytelling, gesture and emotion, relationships between image and text, linear and non-linear storytelling and more. A beautiful pair of First Nation-inspired beaded gauntlet mittens can be yours in no time! Learn about beading, sewing techniques and how to create a pattern while you complete a pair of mittens unique to your own tastes. Terrific Tessellations (44030104) Discover the fantastical world of famous Dutch artist M.C. Escher and produce a work of art using a mathematical perspective. Escher‘s inspiration originated in the 1930s in Spain, where he was intrigued by the 14th-century architectural mosaic designs. Tessellations are potentially endless repeating patterns made up of shapes that fit precisely together. Explore geometric relationships in a creative way, designing your own amazing geometric figure that tessellates and will be used to create an acrylic ink painting of your choice. Supplies are needed. Not to be confused with a reproduction or a copy, a print is an original work of art made through the process of printing. Printmaking comes in many different forms, including silkscreen, woodcut, etching and lithography. This class will introduce you to the history of print and the wide variety of approaches artists take to printmaking. We will have the opportunity to look at prints in person, and the last class will be a field trip to the Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) studio, where you will get a chance to make your very own print! e Johanne Yakula Johanne Yakula is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design, and of the University of Alberta‘s Residential Interiors certificate program. Since 1994, she has owned and operated her business “From Times Past“ which started as a design and decorating resource (for owners of heritage homes) that morphed into a store carrying antiques and collectables. She has been involved in adult education for over 30 years through her teaching for the City of Edmonton and the University of Alberta. She enjoys speaking to groups about design, preservation of heritage homes, history and art.
