Facts Project DescriptionExecution of the second section of line 1 of the underground railways in Algiers. Theproject comprises the execution of four underground railway stations including 4.1 km oftunnels and 16 ventilation structures. Construction started with the driving of five startingpits from which tunnel driving then started simultaneously at several locations using theNew Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). The tunnels are driven using excavators withgunned concrete infill and inner shell executed in a second step. The tunnel is executedimpermeable to press water without drainage with sealing foil and watertight concretebottom. Three to four tunnel tubes are driven in parallel alternately from starting pitslocated between the stations.The stations are executed according to our special proposals whereby the building pitsheetings are integrated into the stations as such forming an integral part of the stations. Atthe stations Mer et Soleil and Cite Amirouche a solution with open bored pile walls wasadopted, whereas the stations Jardin d´Essai and Les Fusilles are executed usingdiaphragm walls with cover and cut method.The stations are executed as white tanking using watertight concrete so that no sealing isrequired.
