The Extended Data Parsing Window

Parsing Definition Activation Check BoxWhen checked, the parsing definitions listed are activated. When not checked, the parsing definitions are not activated.

Actions

Check Button Used to verify the syntax of the parsing definitions and to check whether the parsing definitions will fit in the scanner’s memory.

Parsing Definitions List Box Each parsing definition is assigned a number which is displayed in the list box.

Conditions List Box Each condition is assigned a number which is displayed in the list box. Each parsing definition may have one or more conditions.

Actions List Box Each action is assigned a number which is displayed in the list box. Each parsing definition may have one or more actions.

New Button Used to create and assign a number to new parsing definitions, conditions, and actions.

Move Up and Down ButtonsUsed to move parsing definitions, conditions, and actions up or down in the list window. The number of the item in the list window indicates the order in which the items will be run.

Delete Button Used to delete existing parsing definitions, conditions, and actions.

Tag Dropdown List The Tag window becomes visible when a new condition or action is being created or an existing condition or action is selected in the list box. The tag window is often accompanied by a second window used for additional input.

Example To create a Parsing definition that will add the prefix <ID> and the suffix </ID> to all PDF417 barcodes that are 20 characters in length.

1. Open MetroSet2.

2. Click on the desired scanner model. The Focus/1690 will be used in this example.

3. Click on the Configure Focus/1690 Scanner button at the bottom of the window.

4. Click on Extended Parsing under the Data Formatting options.

Click on the desired scanner model*. * For this example the Focus/1690 will be

selected.

Expand the menu options by clicking on the + sign next to the type of scanner.

Click on the configure scanner button.

Click on Extended Parsing under Data Formatting.

5. Click on the New button in the Parsing Definitions Section to add a new parsing definition.

6. Click on the New button in the Conditions Section to establish the first parsing condition.

7. Click on the down arrow to access the Tag dropdown list. Choose Symbology equals from the dropdown menu.

Click on the New button to create a new definition. A number 1 will appear in the window to the left of the New button.

Click on the New button to create a new condition. A number 1 will appear in the window to the left of the New button. A Tag option box will appear to the right of the New button.

Choose Symbology equals from the tag list. Choose Symbology equals from the tag list.

Click on arrow.

8. Click on the down arrow to access the Symbology identifier dropdown list. Choose PDF417.

9. Establish a second condition. Click on the New button. Choose Length equals from the Tag dropdown menu. Then type in 20 for the Length (value).

10. Create an action to be taken when the parsing conditions have been met. Click on the New button in the Actions

section. Choose Send fixed string from the Tag dropdown menu. Type in <ID> as the string.

Choose PDF417 from the dropdown list.

Click on arrow.

Click on the arrow to expand the dropdown menu. Choose Length equals from the list.

Click on the New button. A 2 will appear in the window to the left of the New button.

Type in 20 for the Length (value).

Click on the arrow to expand the dropdown menu. Choose Send fixed string from the list.

Click on the New button. A 1 will appear in the window to the left of the New button.

Type in <ID>.

11. Click on the New button to create the second action. Choose Send block of characters from position X to the end. Then, type in 1 for the Position (value).

12. Click on the New button to create the third action. Choose Send fixed string from the dropdown list. Then, type in </ID> for the String.

13. Click on the New button to create the fourth action. Choose Apply prefixes and suffixes from the dropdown list.

Click on the arrow to expand the dropdown menu. Choose Send block of characters from position X to the end.

Click on the New button. A 2 will appear in the window to the left of the New button.

Type in 1.

Type in </ID>.

Click on the New button. A 3 will appear in the window to the left of the New button.

Click on the arrow to expand the dropdown menu. Choose Send fixed string from the list.

Click on the arrow to expand the dropdown menu. Choose Apply prefixes and suffixes from the list.

Click on the New button. A 4 will appear in the window to the left of the New button.

14. Check the Enable extended data parsing check box at the top of the Extended Data Parsing window

15. Click on the Check button to verify the parsing definition’s syntax. This check procedure will also check to see if the

parsing definitions listed will fit in the scanner’s memory.

Check the Enable extended data parsing box.

Click the Check button. The parsing block should build successfully.
