I-605 Corridor Improvement Project Overview

The San Gabriel River Freeway, Interstate 605 (I-605), between Interstate 105 (I-105) and Interstate 10 (I-10), is one of the busiest and most congested highways in the greater Los Angeles area. Projected growth in the region’s population and goods movement are expected to further deteriorate the tra�c capacity and operations of I-605. To ease congestion and plan for future growth, operational and safety improvements are needed.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), in collaboration with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), District 7, the Gateway Cities Council of Governments (GCCOG) and the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG), is proposing improvements to approximately 16 miles of highway located along I-605, from approximately I-105 to I-10. The I-605 Corridor Improvement Project (project) also includes improvements along Interstate 105 (I-105), Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 60 (SR-60), and Interstate 10 (I-10).

The proposed project considers and studies multiple alternatives, which are outlined below.

Improvements will revitalize the heart of Southern California’s freeway network, allowing people and goods to move freely, which will stimulate and support a robust economy, capable of growing with the region and demands of the future.

Local Improvements by Jurisdiction

Major Corridor Improvements

Proposed improvements to on- and o�-ramps, bridges, underpasses, and local connecting roadways will greatly increase circulation on local streets and streamline access to businesses and connections to nearby residential neighborhoods.
