Mexican Flag The national emblem of Mexico is based on Aztec legend tells

how his people wandered for hundreds of years in the Mexican territory looking for the signal indicated by their gods to found the city of Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City), which saw a eagle

devouring a serpiente.4 Although the meaning of the colors has changed over time, these were adopted by Mexico during the

War of Independence with Spain. The current flag was officially adopted in 1968, but the overall design has been used since 1821

when the First National Flag was created. From Wednesday, February 8, 1984 a law published in the Official Journal of the

Federation that governs and regulates the use of the National Flag Act called Emblem, Flag and Anthem Nacionales.1 The flag has

changed thirteen times through its history (starting with the banner of Miguel Hidalgo), as the national emblem design and

proportions of length and width have been modified. The current flag, called the Fourth National Flag, is also used as a symbol for

all naval vessels registered in Mexico.
