Microgrid Deployment Tracker 4Q11Commercial, Community, Institutional, Military, andRemote Microgrids: Active Projects by World Region
Microgrids, which are a mechanism for integratingdistributed energy generation, both from renewable andfossil fuel resources, are proliferating around the world ina variety of forms. Microgrids may be grid-tied or remoteand are utilized in several key application segmentsincluding commercial, community, institutional, military, and remote installations.
The year 2011 signaled a shift away from pilot projectsand/or research-related experiments, as some of the first
large-scale commercial microgrid projects reachedsignificant milestones. With the adoption of the IEEEP1547.4 islanding standards in July 2011, the shift frompilot validation projects to fully commercial projects willonly accelerate. Since 2009, a handful of largecommercially viable projects have come to light, especially in California as platforms for aggregation ofdistributed renewable resources and in New York with combined heat and power (CHP) units as anchor technologies.
This Pike Research tracker report provides a detailed and comprehensive database of worldwide microgrid projects. Thetracker covers microgrids in five key segments: commercial industrial, community/utility, institutional/campus, military, andremote systems. Deployments are segmented by world region, and the tracker includes details on generation capacitypower generation sources, facility type, and companies involved for each project.
