The Tale of Dexter DroneAn adult book written in a childish fashion for your benefit.

Dexter Drone was created in a factory by the hands of the Creator. The Creator put together all of his drones and loved each of them equally.

[The Creator is portrayed by Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon who shocked the world a few years ago when he announced his plan to have a squadron of drone deliver items for his company.] (Wohlsen)

Drones needed to be tested by the Creator and his consultants before they could be used. Dexter loved the idea of being a useful drone and awaited his results.

[Bezos currently has a team testing and designing new generations of drones to deliver for Amazon.] (Wohlsen)

It was the big day for Dexter. He had passed his evaluation and was set to receive an assignment from the Creator. A man, John Everyman, ordered Dexter to aid in his small business as a package courier.

Dexter was finally being used. He was so excited and was always happy to haul whatever John gave him –packages, sandwiches, bags-to whatever destination he could.

[Potential uses for drones consist of law enforcement, storm tracking, search and rescue, aerial surveying, filming for media production, aerial inspection in agriculture and industry, and delivery.](Platou)

Dexter would often be joined by a waterfowl that likes to sit in the park by John’s shop. The bird, Gabby Goose, loved to follow Dexter to any destination and often received breadcrumbs at said destination.

One day Dexter was given a package that needed to be sent to a rather rambunctious group. John handed Dexter a package containing megaphones that needed to go to the ACLU Swamp on the opposite end of town. Dexter happily obliged because he loved to be useful.

Gabby and Dexter set out to the swamp. When they arrived they were greeted with an odd sight. A large shack was formed from a hollowed out tree stump sitting in the center of the swamp. It looked uninhabitable.

“Hang on Gabby,” said Dexter. “Let me see if anybody is home.” Dexter proceeded to fly down to the shack and looked in one of the windows of the hovel. A loud shriek was omitted from the home.

“WHAT’RE YA DOIN’ IN MY SWAMP!”

[Something similar occurred in Seattle. A woman reported a drone was hovering outside her window. It was not spying on her as she assumed, but it definitely made her uncomfortable. The public response was total discomfort to the drone situation.](Sterbenz)

A large ACLU Ogre broke down the door to the shack and took a swing at Dexter. Dexter evaded the assault and ascended out of reach. Gabby, who was circling overhead, saw the action and yelled “Get out of there Dexter!”

Dexter flew towards Gabby and heard a whirring next to his front right propeller. A large stone just flew by. He turned and focused his camera on the commotion below him. 2 more ACLU Ogres were shouting and hurling rocks at Dexter.

Dexter fled with Gabby back to John’s shop. They were quite scared and told John what happened. John grew worried and called the Creator.

The next day, Ogres started going near John’s shop and were making a barrier to the entrance from the outside. Because of a simple, isolated misunderstanding the Ogres decided to take justice into their own hands. “Private Rights Violation!” they cried.

[The ACLU currently is keeping a close eye on drone legislation. They do what they can to make their voices heard so they can protect the privacy of citizens.](Bohm)

The Creator and his testers met with John and told him not to worry. The Creator already had informed the town Mayor of the situation before the problem erupted. Everything would be fine.

The Mayor arrived to the shop with the town sheriff. The Ogres disbanded and a new law was set to be put into play. Because of the Dexter Occurrence there were set to be new regulations on Drones in the town.

The law stated that businesses required a permit to use a drone for commercial

purposes and any issues that arose from drone usage could easily be investigated

from footage on the drone’s SD card.

[The FAA is set to come up with a plan to integrate drones into airspace by September 2015. This does not mean full integration, but the groundwork will be laid for commercial drones to be used.](Platou)

The law was enacted and Dexter could continue to be a useful drone, happily taking packages from place to place with Gabby Goose.

The ACLU Ogres did not bother Dexter or John anymore. Their megaphones did get to them, but they had to special order them with donkeys as their courier.
