Runway Incursion Reduction Goal

• Reduce Incursions by 10% over five years (2013)

• Monthly rate as of March 1st is 12.5.

• At that rate, we will have about 150 for the year,

• This is below the 190 not-to-exceed number for 2010.

Wildlife Hazard Mitigation

Wildlife Strike Update• Wildlife Strike Database went public and redesigned

http://wildlife-mitigation.tc.faa.gov/wildlife/default.aspx

• Online strike reporting – http://www.faa.gov/wireless• Outside Review of Wildlife Strike Database

– Higher level of reporting – However, the number of damaging strikes has not increased– Determined the current level of reporting (39 percent) is

statistically valid and is sufficient for the FAA to develop national trends and mitigation policies.

• Cert Alert for Wildlife Hazard Assessments with Triggering Events

• NPRM for Mandatory Wildlife Hazard Assessments

16Federal AviationAdministration

Safety Management System (SMS)

• ICAO required certificated airports to have in operation an SMS by November 24, 2005– Part 139 Amendment –

Rulemaking project initiated– AC for SMS Development– SMS Pilot Projects – Over 30

Airports Participated– ACRP Research– Trade group cooperation

17Federal AviationAdministration

Safety Management System (SMS)

• FAA is incorporating SMS into its organizations– ATO SMS is

operational– ARP and AVS SMS in

development

Planning and Programming

1. ARRA accomplishments. We’re extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish, in partnership with airports, states, consultants and contractors. We awarded 100% of the funds available for grants at 334 airports, creating or funding an estimated 6,000 jobs nationwide. Thanks to everyone involved.

2. Jobs bill. Everything we’re hearing at the moment suggests that there won’t be an airports component in a jobs bill. However, we’re really focused on getting access to the remaining $1.5 billion that Congress appropriated for AIP in FY-2010. We’re optimistic that Congress will extend our authorization beyond March 31.

3. Split-year AIP. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we implement a split-year AIP program for the third year in a row. It’s complicated for all parties involved, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through the issues.
