Michael JacksonMichael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958
– June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and
actor. Called the King of Pop, his contributions to music and dance, along
with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over
four decades.
Don’t Stop ‘Till You get Enough (1979)
Michael Jackson is portrayed as a professional dancer and singer. He’s wearing a suit, so he looks smart and
presentable. The animation they show in the background was an innovation in 70s, so people might have been impressed with
the effect and quality of it.
Billie Jean (1983)This is a short movie music video. They
used a lot of special effects, and again, showed Michael Jackson as an amazing dancer. He’s wearing bright long socks, so it’s easier for people to see and notice his dance moves.
Thriller (1983)This video changed the concept of music videos. It was the
first ever video about the making of a music video. It became very popular and recognisable all around the world.
Michael Jackson is performing a dance routine with other dancers dressed as zombies. The outfit he’s wearing
became very iconic, as well. It’s one of the most expensive music videos ever. And once again, it portrays Michael as
an excellent dancer, performer and singer.
Smooth Criminal (1988)This is another short movie video. It is almost 10 minutes long,
but it is filled with various dance routines. It shows the most popular Michael Jackson’s dance moves. In the video, he is
portrayed as a gangster and wearing a white suit which really stands out, because other actors are wearing dark
coloured costumes. We can tell that he started changing his image with this video, because he plays a certain character.
In previous videos he was performing as himself.
They Don’t Care About Us (1996)
This video caused a lot of controversy, because of song’s misinterpreted lyrics and a few attempts to bad the video
by officials in Rio de Janeiro. The authorities of the city didn’t want people to see the poverty of the streets. In the
video he is surrounded by people who play drums and dance with him, they’re all locals. He doesn’t perform any
of his famous dance routines, but we can see a few recognisable dance moves. He is wearing jeans and
different colorful t-shirts which have to represent something.
A Place With No Name (2014)This video was released after Michael Jackson’s death, so he
doesn’t perform in it. He still appears in the video a few times, but we can see him in short, few-seconds footages. The video is black and white at first and we can see a man and a woman dancing. It turns coloured towards the end, some visual effects are added while the couple carries on
dancing.
