The city of Washington, DC is filled with his-tory through its rich urban plan and mul-titude of museums. The historic 8th Street axis connects the new convention center to the National Mall. The design of a new city museum cannot obstruct that axis, so it must be built down into the ground.

It becomes a void at a once prominent lo-cation formed by the crossing streets at Mt. Vernon Square. Somewhat of a cavern in the site, the museum adds a new element to the area. The new museum will be a huge attraction bringing in more tourism to the northern section of our Nation’s Capitol.

The museum is divided into three levels that reach deep down into the earth. Each layer houses exhibit space, while the second lev-el also serves as the administration wing.

Although it has been abandoned for de-cades, the long history of the McComb Post Office gives much prominence to this beau-tiful building. Once a cherished landmark, the Post Office, which sits a couple hun-dred yards from the Canadian National Rail-road, lies vacant awaiting a new occupant.

Once a major railroad town on the line from New Orleans to Chicago, McComb has been on an economic downturn since the 1960s. The design of a Railroad Museum will brighten the west side of town, with the in-tention of reviving the once thriving area.

The building has three floors, each having been worked into the program. The base-ment floor houses exhibit space, restrooms, and café area before spilling out into the exterior courtyard. The first floor contains exhibit space and a gift shop, while the second floor is where the administration is set up.

Located in West Texas, Marfa is home to the Chinati Conservation Facility. It houses art pieces from artist and former resident Don-ald Judd. The need for an Art Conservation Center is dire with the harsh climate of Marfa.

Disguised to blend in with the landscape, the Chinati Art Conservation Center will be a state of the art facility housing cu-rator space, storage, exhibit area, and a café. It will allow for more tourists to visit and enjoy the rural town of Marfa, Texas.

A 36.5 acre abandoned rail-yard to the south of Mitte provided to be a great site for a new urban development. Located in the heart of a densely populated residential/commer-cial section of Berlin, the site proved to bring a connection of nature and civilization. A semester long project, the Berlin Housing Development went through many stag-es from large urban scale to human scale.

With the requirements needing to meet 2000 units of housing, I worked through a rigorous process to develop this urban condition. The building forms take their shape from the ex-isting city blocks throughout the area, while shifting and altering their own grid. The cen-tral plaza area is the focus of the site. It brings a new identity to the city, one that proves for a promising future of natural integration.

For a two-week design charette, I designed an apartment complex located in the down-town Baton Rouge, Louisiana area. The ob-jective was to fit approximately 60 living units on an empty site at the corner of La-fayette Street and Main Street. With views limited in the area below five stories, I decid-ed to build the complex up vertically. Doing so enhanced views of the Louisiana Capitol, Mississippi River, Mississippi River Bridge, and the Downtown Baton Rouge skyline.

The structure of the building runs mainly through the five vertical circulation cores, with the floor plates cantilevering off in different directions. Each floor plate shifts and rotates to give a variety of views of the city from the different units. Interior and exterior common spaces are placed on certain floor plates to bring a larg-er sense of community to the residents.

For my first experience with a real client, I collaborated with a classmate and worked with a family living in a beautiful house but wanting more. They wanted to be able to envision a large expansion. Their desire was to add to/renovate the master bedroom, while including a two-story aquarium and green house. A pool house was to be added directly behind the pool in line with the cur-rent house, with the aquarium connecting the master bedroom and pool house. A lat-er phase would be the addition of a two-bay garage to the south large enough to house a motorhome and speedboat. Through several client meetings, we came up with a satisfying design that fit their needs.

Over my years at LSU, I have used sketching as my medium for process work. I have in-cluded a few of my more recent sketches to show my sketching ability and understand-ing of diagrammatic elements. The sketch-es are a compilation of three projects. The ones at the top left are from a Cinema proj-ect. The one at the bottom left is from a Kindergarten project, and the ones to the right are from the Berlin Housing project.
