  • I. Introduction

It is true that one can learn more through experience. For that, schools provide

programs that are best suited to give the students relevant and practical skills in working

in an actual field setting. Those will help them to be more competitive in their chosen

    specialization.

One of such is on-the-job training program where students commit theirselves to

become an intern in a company related to their program. In training, students are able to

interact with different kinds of people, deal with real-life problems that they don't usually

encounter in school. On-the-job training is a way to achieve fulfilment or provide answer

    to the question Why?.

A mutualism relationship exists when a student applies for an OJT position in a

company and the company personnel hired them as an intern. Trainees provide

additional manpower while company provides experience.

This narrative report will talk about my form of training that took place in Arkray

Industry Inc. at Sta. Anastacia, Sto. Tomas, Batangas. I started last July 6, 2015

together with one of my classmate. Supposedly, we are going to have our training in

Takata, but due to unexplainable circumstances we ended up in a medical company,

Arkray Industry Inc. I have no regrets in persisting to have my training in the company. I

am sure I learned a lot from my trainers and superiors.

This paper will show the skills I gained while I was carrying out my job and the

learning experiences from the real work environment. Let me provide you a closer view

on those experiences by having this report completed.

    III. Training Details

    a. Personal

The training I had in ARKRAY Industry, Inc. made me see the application,

not only of the academic theories and work values that I acquired from the

academe but also of the values and attributes a professional should have in

dealing with people management. With the help of the company, I also gained

knowledge in the field of my specialization.

  • This internship training has become a way of testing my honesty, patience

and commitment to the work I had. As days pass by, new knowledge and

experiences are gained and new chalenges are overcome. Through all the

hardwork and effort I realized that the setting at the actual field is really different

than the setting in school wher you have your comfort zone. In my entire stay, I

learned that I must make my own decisions while still following the rules set

aside by the body governing my actions. I became able to do people

management and peer handling in a better and more professional way.

By doing the tasks assigned to me, I was able to reveal myself as being

creative, having advanced and concrete goals, being highly motivated, being

sincere, being diligent and sparing no effort, being modest and openminded,

aspiring to excellence and perfection, being determined and courageous, being

proactive, being responsive and efficient, being respectful, being economical and

doing what is best for the whole everyday, evrerywhere, all the time. Throughout

the training, I was able to execute and perform properly strange and new kind of

tasks which I thought Im not able to do just on my own. I found out how to accept

my shortcomings and how to learn from my mistakes. Now, I can say that I can

manage circumstances not within my grasp. This training served as a bridge

connecting my present to a bighter future.

    b. Interpersonal

I think I have to admit that I belong to the ambivert type of a person.

Sometimes I convince myself to act as if I am already part of the people who

were actually I barely know. But there also comes a time when I isolate myself

eventhough Im already surrounded by those who I almost shared half of my life.

At ARKRAY I met too many kind of personalities one may encounter. I learned

that each of us really have attitude towards something we look up to. But still, my

new friends and family showed me how to make good relationships and fine

    connections.

  • Being too sociable is not bad, being antisocial is. In working with them, I

developed my skill in conversating with comprehension and querying with

appropriate intonation and mood and usage of proper honorifics.

All through out, they made another acquaintance they will never forget. An

so do I, had peope I will always remember.

    c. Technical

Through this training, I was exposed to the medical researches and

developments that will help provide better, reliable, accessible and safe

servicesm tests and diagnosis with regard to the concerns of the people on their

    health issues.

The training plan involves subjection to the processes and production,

testing and inspections, maintenance and calibration, process improvements,

documentation and interpretations of data and results, packaging and shipping

and working with all the people in the industrial scenario. The training also

includes safety monitoring, customer complaints handling and 5S methodology.

After the briefing, I was endorsed in preventive maintenance section under

the engineering department. I was assigned to warehousing and after a day or

two, I approached maam rich for a request of transfer to other department

because I might not have good practices of my skills in line with my program.

Upon concern, I was immediately transferred to the Quality Control/Quality

Assurance Department. Here, there are different sections such as testing, in-

process and incoming & outgoing inspection. First, I was assigned in testing

section. Maam Gaye supervised me while the inspectors trained me. For training

within the said section, they demonstrated how to conduct maintenance,

calibration and operation of necessary equipments such as pH meter, analytical

balance, PU-4010, AE-4020, AX-4030 Machines, Spectrophotometer and UV-

VIS Spectrometer. They also taught me how to prepare different solutions and

reagents for analysis of Urinary Test Strip performances. Those reagents include

Basic and Acidic Artificial Urine, Glucose, Protein, Bilirubin, Urobilinogen, etc.

  • Testing proper commences right after all the preparations. Analyses and

interpretations of data and results follow by doing documentation and encoding.

For daily duty, it is a must to observe and follow 5S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso,

    Seiketsu and Shitsuke) rules.

In other sections, they trained me on how to do in-coming inspections of

part assembly of UTS, SCC and MLD products. They trained me on visual

inspections and dimensional analyses of different products of the company. Like

in testing, theres also range specification in giving judgment. Here, I utilized

TESA vista in clearly checking dimensions of microlevel measurement. I also

used Jigs, micrometer, caliper and other dimensional tools. The materials we are

checking here are bottles and caps for UTS, and container and cover for SCC

(Specimen Collecting Container). For inprocess inspection of Urine test Strips

they demonstrated us how to conduct inspection from checking of line clearance

as basis for inspection of materials, workers, machines and area of production up

to visual and dimensional analyses. The PIC in calibration also taught me how to

calibrated pin gauges by using micrometer. While in outgoing inspection of UTS,

they taught me how to inspect UTS visually and how to test its durability by doing

the shake-and-drop test. By using torch meter, I can measure the force needed

    to open such bottle.

They guided me how to set data loggers and how to download the record

data from them with the help of Nakamura-san. They also demonstrated how to

download data from thermorecorder. Maam Shiela discussed how to operate

    AU-4050 Machine.

They also taught us how to make a TEIAN entry. The entry consists of

provision of work instructions for utilization of some instruments in the laboratory

such as UV/VIS spectrometer and PU-4010. Work instructions for preparation of

solutions and reagents can also be provided. After producing and finalizing work

instruction, the superiors will give comments for revision and improvement.

Approval of the documents will then follow. After that, dissemination of

  • information will make the work instruction valid and effective. A training has also

been set for the explanation of the contents.

    d. Program Specific

Before we started training, we expected and assumed that we will be

assigned in different sections in the company. But it so happened that we were

nailed in the Quality Assurance/Quality Control team. Despite the circumstance,

our supervisor still amnaged to let us have the experience in other sections in the

    company.

Most of the tasks done by people in different sections have also been

given to us.By having those task done, we learned how the process works in

producing high quality products. The training includes familiarization of process

flow and equipments, materials handling, safety and hazard considerations,

proces improvements and innovations, analyses and computations, and

    maintenance and calibration.

In process flow familiarization we are able to see how the qualified raw

materials are being processed. In Urine Test Strips, the basefilm will undergo

gluing process where enough and even amount of glue are put on it. Reagent

pad such as glucose reagent pad, protein reagent pad and others are placed in

that part of the basefilm with equal spacing. The basefilm will then be slitted into

101 strips. It will then be put in a bottle with a dessicant to avoid moistuire

absorption of the paper. The bottle will then be packaged for shipping but before

that it must be tested by the QC if there is no discrepancy in quantity and quallity.

After the confirmation or go-signal of the QC inspector, it is the only time that the

logistics team can ship and distribute the products.

In familiarization of equipments, we were introduced to measuring

equipments, what they do and how to operate them. Dimensions and quantities

measured by those equipments include length, width, thickness, weight, volume,

  • pH, temperature, humidity, reflectance, absorbance, specific gravity and

    concentration.

Some of the equipments first time encountered are:

IV. Training Assessment in Relation to:

    a. Student Outcomes

At the end of the training, I learned sufficient knowledge and comparable

work experience on an actual working environment.

This training improved my knowledge with regard to relevant equipments,

safety rules and regulations, procedures and strategies to execute operations for

improvement of processes and for the betterment of peoples daily living. This

also increased my knowledge about the medical aspects and how research and

developmenmt team works. Production processes and good manufacturing

procedures are also observed. I learned about different equipments including

their design, function, maintenance and calibration. I also practiced analyses and

interpretation of experimental data and results. The training also enabled me to

harness flexibility, versatility and diversity of my chosen profession.

  • b. Engineering Program

On-the-job training helped me acquire the essence of being a productive

universal engineer. It established an introduction of the real life situations and for

that, there would be a lesser culture shock on my future carreer. Affiliations to

others is not always as easy as you think but it is not also too impossible to do. In

the industry I am able to realize how important my presence and contributions

    can make.

With all these kept in my mind, I can say proud and loud that I can do my

part as a universal engineer with the aid of God and everyone at my side. I am

now more prepared to independently thrive with more of the challenges to come.
