Opening process went fine even if a very intense period2 teams of 12 persons working in 2 shifts + experts supports : Safety, RPE… + Interventions of many experts on the various systems : Beam Pipes, Calorimeters, Cryogenics, Muons, Lucid, Survey
Only one major problem : 140 T crane failed during HF Truck lifting on C side (on Feb. 19th)Repair completed on Feb. 22nd
M. Raymond – July 1st, 2013
Planned on March 13th Completed on March 19th, + 4 days
The installation of the lifting frame on the Small Wheel has been more difficult than expected : Expected difficulties were well
anticipated Some unexpected ones appeared !!
This milestone was not on the critical path of the schedule :Work has been done quietly without taking risk
The whole opening process has been performed in reasonable agreement with the time schedule presented on previous Atlas week. It has open the door to significant activities on various detectors.
SW-C at surface
M. Raymond – July 1st, 2013
EE chamber installation
Important activity regarding the schedule because of a strong impact on the activities in the experimental cavern :
Parallel to the opening process Requires specific configuration + dismounting of many access platforms on A side Space consuming on A side, Large use of crane
Preparatory workPlanned to start on Feb. 21st actual start on Feb 26th
Chamber installation (mechanics)EEL planned from Feb. 25th to March 18th performed from Feb 28th to April 2nd EES planned from March. 29th to April 26th performed from March 26th to April 18th
Chamber alignment and commissioning Planned to be completed on May 8th actual completion on May 15th
