TYPOGRAPHIC SYSTEMAs i researched into the different types of systems for typography, i decided to experiment by designing some layouts with the systems applied. The system above is referred to the radial system

APPLICATIONFrom the mark making experimentation it created some interesting imagery which i applied as a design onto a potential layout

TYPOGRAPHY WORKSHOPI attended the “Grids, no grids” workshop where it involved Vaughan Oliver presenting his ‘calender’ designs in which was decorative rather than funtional. Our task as a group of three was to create our own interpretion of the specific month we got as-signed (April). We were expected to move away from the typical organised and structured calender format.

BEAUTY AND MAKEUPMy development for a theme of the magazine led to be based on an interest of mine - make-up. As i did some furthur research into beauty and make-up maga-zines, i began to experiment layouts using collages.

APPLICATIONI drew out a silhouette of a woman in order to replace the black with

the collages i previ-ously constructed. I

also applied the water-colour painting effect

to this image.

INSPIRATIONVaughan Oliver’s calender piece has inspired

me to create what is not expected from the typicial make-up magazine. So i wanted to

construct something out of the norm. Instead of the typical imagery illustrating make-up, i wanted to use imagery i’ve produced looking

something like this (left).

I created an entire magazine for my final major project at my Foundation Art Course. It’s concept was based in an art college where one student every month is featured to be able to get to know their fellow student and uncover a sense of their personailty and what they do. This magazine in-tends for people to “not judge a book by it’s cover”.

BRIEF: MAKING A GRID & BREAKING A GRIDUNI BRIEF PROJECTS;

EVERYDAY USE GRIDSEveryday use objects may resemble a grid. Here i have played with photography to distort this image of a MacBook keyboard. By distorting the image it had broken the grid resemblance.

FACE GRIDDrawing a face with a grid ensures facial features are in their proper place and in correct proportion.

Page 31: Michelle Pura Portfolio

As i drew the grid over a face, i carved out certain grid blocks to make it appear as if they are slowly dettaching away from the face.

BRIEF: RESPONCE TO BIOGRAPHY RESEARCH

CINDY SHERMAN: SELF PHOTOGRAPHYThese photographs are self-photographed recreations of a few of Sherman’s imfamous photography. I stepped out of my comfort zone and into hers.

To create this typeface i experimented with mark making using acrylic paint. This in particular, i have used the end of a hairclip. To finalise a neat typeface i had scanned the mark making prints and edited the letters.

BRIEF: LIMITATIONS

Page 37: Michelle Pura Portfolio

To create a themed typeface using only the limitations of paper and scalpel. My theme was based on Alice In Wonderland. (Inspired by Julene Harrison).
