Michigan Strategic AlignmentGoing to the next level

The Governor’s six priority areas is the basis for… MDIT Strategic Plan with five goals

Goal 2: Transform Michigan's services through sharing and collaboration

Seven Technology Solutions Data Integration: is optimized through data warehousing

Prudent use of taxpayer money requires that we minimize the number of systems and tools that we use in Business Intelligence (BI) efforts

The State will likely never have enough resources, but BI can help to use existing resources more efficiently and effectively

The goal of BI is to maximize the use of shared or common resources by reducing the number of BI platforms to one, and to provide a single tool for each class of BI applications

Business Intelligencegoing to the next level

Data Warehousing is the physical aspect of storing data, and the process of turning

data into information and knowledge is Business Intelligence

Gartner Study Going to the next level

Actionable

Gartner was contracted by MDIT to help the State of Michigan develop an enterprise information management and data warehouse strategy to:

Increase information

sharing across government.

Increase the ability to

leverage both infrastructure and expertise.

Increase the ability to better support both the infrastructure and the delivery of Business

Intelligence solutions to the enterprise.

Maturity Levels 1 - BASIC 2 - DEVELOPING 3 - DEFINED 4 - MANAGED 5 - OPTIMIZED

Ad-hoc approach Random areas of

success

Leading areas have BI objectives defined

Enterprise-wide BI strategy and objectives identified

BI objectives are measured and tracked vs. targets

Variety of BI projects

No shared resources or governance

Aligned with business strategy

Mature improvement processes

Governance provides standard BI tools and approaches

Shared resourcing of BI projects

Data Stewardship Embryonic BICC

Exploitation of the EDW.

Shared analysis resources

Mature BICC Enterprise BI

collaboration

No standards Primitive

techniques

Corporate standards for licensing and support

Tools aligned to user role

Standard tools become favored

Embryonic BICC for support of tools and analysis

Tools integrated with EDW

Some BI integration with applications

BICC facilitates business change

Real time analytics

Mature BICC BI indispensable

Data managed locally

Corporate data collection impacts indirectly

Scope of common enterprise data started

Some data sharing for BI

Common data definitions supports new developments

Staged EDW introduced

EDW has many subject areas

EDW is the support for enterprise BI
