Facilitator Report- Hi Family –

I electronically filed the Annual Report with the State of Michigan, so we are good until next year!

I also went to 5/3rd Bank along with Arvilla, AJ and Mark P. I believe we are now all added to the region account (Mark P is only added to the MRCNA account).

I attended the MRSLD in Racine. It was a great event. It was good to see some of our RCM’s and others from our region in attendance. I would love to hear some brief feedback from those who attended. I wish more of the RCM’s were able to attend. Knowledge is power!

The guidelines have been revised one more time – to include the positions of Web Servant, PR and MSO Rep. These will be up for approval under old business of today’s meeting.

Also, today the MSO rep position is up for election. This will be covered under new business.

Thanks for letting me serve –Barb P

RD ReportRD Report

Dec. 1 2019

I filled out the ideas for the 2020 CAR survey. There were responses from 82 conference participants and 9 interested members. Question one was: Do you agree with trying an umbrella approach for project plans for short service tools and IPs for this cycle? This would include Conference participants making decisions about which items are worked on. 82% agreed 12% don’t know yet and 6% disagreed with this. The second question was: Do you support including questions about literature changes and development processes in the 2020 CAR survey? 95% agreed 5% don’t know yet and 0% disagreed.

I was unable to participate in the October conference participants’ webinar. Most of this meeting was focused on the CAR. Also discussed was, on Sept.14, 2019 NAWS held a web meeting open to all interested members to share best practices of online meetings. More than 160 members join at some point, with about 120 members, plus 9 board members and 10 staff present for the whole meeting. Most of the meeting was spent in small group discussion. Notes for this meeting are posted on na.org/conference under miscellaneous. This was the most geographically diverse webinar with participants from all around the world. On Sept. 21, 2019 the first virtual meeting of zones and Iran. This meeting came from an idea of the WSC of the future workgroup, to increase zonal collaboration.

The first review and input period has been completed for the spiritual principle a day project. Input was received from India, Canada, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, Greece, Netherlands,

Page 3: michigan-na.org€¦  · Web viewRD Report. RD Report. Dec. 1 2019. I filled out the ideas for the 2020 CAR survey. There were responses from 82 conference participants and 9 interested

New Zealand, Peru, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay and 32 US states. 45% of input was from groups, gatherings or committees and 55% from individuals. The second set of principles is out now for review and input, and a new set of principles to write on. Go to na.org/spad to find this.

I was unable to make it to the November MZF. I did participate for a couple of hours on Saturday. The minutes for this meeting have not come out yet, so I have nothing else to report on this meeting.

As you all are probably aware the conference agenda report is now available. There are 5 World Board motions, 11 Regional motions a CAR survey and discussion on a number of issues in this year’s CAR. The Michigan Region is hosting the Multi-Regional CAR/CAT workshop. Tana A. from the World Board is going to attend. I would encourage every Area to send their RCM and RCMA to this event. I want to thank Sally and everybody else that helped put this together.

In the past I have been given the Regions Debit card information so I can purchase airline tickets for the upcoming conference. Plane tickets are usually the best price about 2 months out. So to get the best price I would like to get that information today.

Thanks Marty D.

RDA-Hi family I’m an addict named Sally,

Thanks to the Northwestern Michigan area for hosting. There were over 70 people present for the Friendsgiving and about 30 people who stayed to play NA Jeopardy. Fun was had by all!

Thanks to Jennah and Patti for keeping up on the Google Drive! Last night I was able to read prior months minutes, upload fliers, and anything else my little heart desired- RCMs- you also have access to this! There’s a sweet little app you can download to navigate on your phone or also from a computer. If you need help with access- please see Patti, Jennah or myself

Page 4: michigan-na.org€¦  · Web viewRD Report. RD Report. Dec. 1 2019. I filled out the ideas for the 2020 CAR survey. There were responses from 82 conference participants and 9 interested

The CAR is here! I’m going to touch a little bit on the CAR Survey. This is our chance to give input on Literature, Service Materials and Issue Discussion Topics. As members, we are all encouraged to fill out this survey online at na.org/survey by April 1. We are also being asked to collect the conscience of the service bodies- so we will do that at the March region. Please be thinking about what you would like to see next. Since there will not be funding for a large project- they will be focusing on smaller pieces such as IPs and service materials. Here are the topics:

Service Materials- select up to 4

Issue Discussion Topics- select up to 4

Questions to help frame WSC Discussions

You’ll notice that the motions from regions that pertain to literature (motions 6-14) are included in this survey. The hope is that we can get a conscience of the worldwide fellowship to see if these are topics that everyone wants (as would be directed through the survey and then the literature approval process can begin) rather than the wishes of a few regions.

We will be hosting the Midwest Zonal Forum in January at the Crowne Plaza in Grand Rapids. Rates are $85 a night for the CAR/CAT workshop. We worked with the H&H chair of MRCNA and were able to get this deal as well as a good deal on the conference rooms. I believe that the MZF will be paying the $450 for the conference room and for the use of our own projector. The event will be as follows: CAT on Friday, CAR Saturday and MZF on Sunday. We have a member from the world Board coming to facilitate the workshop. While the CAT doesn’t come out until the end of January, we should have the material from the WB member that weekend. More will be revealed.

Point of Information- on the Region rotation sheet NW Area is set for March 8. Should this be March 1?

Please see What in the World (attached)

Webservant-

Hello family,

All is well in the world of the website. I have reported to Naws 3 times since we met last. I update when asked. I have made a few changes like I made the regional report form link RED. Its on the front page of the regional webpage. Easy to see and use. I have the interactive map on the front main page as well as the Michigan regions page. Other than that, its pretty quiet on the website front. As always, I am here for any help with meeting updates or website updates. Thanks for your service and thanks for letting me serve.

Public Relations-Hey all,

Here’s what’s going on in the world of PR.We got a contact in Coldwater. Now we have an NA member in that area to go into the Jail in that area. Thank you, Dre, for coming through on that.In September, we had the Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorder Conference going on at Cobo Hall in Detroit. We passed out a lot of literature and got contact info for Washtenaw County in the jail as they were having some trouble clearing people. One aspect that I think helped carry the NA message the most is having 15 NA members who work in that field light up and run on over to our booth. It really speaks volumes that I had a line of people wanting to talk

Page 6: michigan-na.org€¦  · Web viewRD Report. RD Report. Dec. 1 2019. I filled out the ideas for the 2020 CAR survey. There were responses from 82 conference participants and 9 interested

about NA or just wanting to catch up with me. I don’t know if the other attendees had any idea what a presence NA members had in their field.I have those information sheets made. Please note that areas have a space to fill out the contact for meeting changes. In Livingston, I am going to assist with an Issue Discussion Topic on Medically Assisted Treatment. This is looking to be happening in February. At the last regional meeting, it was asked of me to give my recommendation for Sponsorship Behind The Walls. It is my recommendation that we end the Sponsorship Behind The Wallsgram. program. My reasoning as follows:

- We currently do not have a unified H&I committee throughout the region.- The list of volunteers needs to be refreshed and a process needs to be implemented to

make sure these volunteers are accountable.- I do not believe we are being responsible with offering this service at this current state.

At the MZSS that I went to last year, I got to see how some other places are helping incarcerated addicts find all aspects of recovery. Other regions and zones have full committees dedicated to this endeavor. If the region would like to pursue this in the future, I recommend consulting with Plain States Zonal Forum as they have guidelines, do’s and don’ts, and fully explained positions. The presentation I saw can be found at https://mzssna.org/workshop/sponsorship-behind-the-walls/ (note that if this web address is moved, you might need to poke around mzssna.org to find this, but they have archived all old presentations)

MRCNA Hello Family,

I’m a Recovering Addict Named John,

First things first, we have a theme! “Trust The Process” was selected from the myriad of choices submitted this year. We are in the process of looking for artwork for the theme, and there is a flyer available online that I will attach along with this report in my email to the Regional Secretary. We also have the updated registration flyer available for you to take to your respective areas.

The next item to discuss on the MRCNA agenda is the budgets for the subcommittees. The group did quite a bit to make sure we kept the budgets reasonable, while still being as realistic as possible for the anticipated increase in attendance this coming year, given the convention’s more central location.

Thirdly, there has been some discrepancy about the MRCNA treasurer having access to the Debit card specifically attached to the MRCNA portion of the account. I would like the chance to discuss the issue further, with the help of any other MRCNA subcommittee members here today, who were present at the last MRCNA planning meeting.

Lastly, I would like to request the opportunity to discuss the issues above immediately following this report. I have an annual family engagement I will need to leave for as quickly as possible. All subcommittee positions remain filled at this time, and we have done the walk through to get acclimated on how the convention will flow in the coming year. I’m excited as this convention really begins to take

Page 7: michigan-na.org€¦  · Web viewRD Report. RD Report. Dec. 1 2019. I filled out the ideas for the 2020 CAR survey. There were responses from 82 conference participants and 9 interested

shape. The subcommittees have really been working hard, and I am sure the Michigan Region will experience another amazing and successful convention in 2020. A reminder, we do have: PO Box 184, Belmont, MI 49306 for any physical correspondence. I would like a list of the new RCM/RCMA’s contact information to be able to communicate with for any MRCNA related announcements/needs.

Thank you for the Opportunity to Serve,

John [email protected]

See Email Attachment 2MSOGood morning, Michigan Region. The Board of Directors of the Michigan Service Office meets monthly on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the MSO.

There are currently 11 board members seated out of 18 available seats. Detroit East, Detroit West, Blue Water, and Monroe Areas are not currently represented. Bill C. was appointed to the board by the Metro Detroit Region and was elected treasurer. The board is holding elections of officers at the upcoming December board meeting.

In October, I helped Bob R. remove the MRCNA banners from the office to take to the committee’s storage unit in Lansing.

In November, volunteer board members staffed a booth at the Macomb Area Convention and sold $577 of literature and merchandise.

The repayment plan with NAWS was completed on November 1. NAWS has restored the Office’s credit line, so we were able to make an $8000 order at the beginning of the November for books, IPs, keytags, and medallions. We also ordered new Metro Detroit Regional meeting lists and these are available for sale in the office. We are current on rent and keeping up on our other financial obligations.

My term as MSO Representative for the Michigan Region expires at the end of the year. I am nominating myself for a second term and appreciate the guidance and support I receive from the Michigan Regional Service Committee.

In loving service,Bob J.Michigan Regional Service Committee reporting representativeMichigan Service Office Board of Directors

Report. Our area has approximately 16 groups and 36 meetings per week. We have had some recent changes to the service committee. Bob R. Is now RCMA. I will not be able to attend the regional meeting. My Son's birthday is on same day. I hope Bob made it. My term as RCM is up this month. So I would just like to say it has been a great pleasure getting to know everyone for the past 4yrs and I look forward at some point of doing something at the regional level. But at this moment I'm going to need to take a little break and give some time back to my family as we are expecting yet another child.. So I have my hands full! I've learned so much and I wish everyone a very Happy and Blessed Holidays! P. S. Sorry Sally for debating with you and friends on your Facebook about climate change! I love you and everyone else in the program! Grateful RCM Capital Area, Jeremy E... 😇

Report. Our area had a PR fund raiser October 26, 2019 that raised $_______ and was a lot of fun, it was potluck with a costume contest and speakers from around the Zone; as far away as Indianapolis. Our H&I sub-committee is stepping up its efforts to carry out our primary purpose, seeking more members of the sub-committee and willingness to carry the message. We are not currently holding any jail meetings but efforts are beginning to take shape. We do not have an activity Chair. We continue to have activities initiated by groups at times. For example, the Never Alone Group has an annual Speaker Jam that is growing to resemble Washtenaw’s Dinosaur Days with variety of new speakers each year. Look for that event around February. Capital area opened Marathon Meeting for Thanksgiving and plans another for Christmas and New Years day. These events, put on by addicts without an activities chair build strong relationships for our area and an example of how a little effort toward our primary purpose goes a long way to make a stronger area base. I am grateful my area elected me as RCMA and I plan to submit a letter of willingness for RCM next month since Jeremy E has finished his term. Thank you for allowing me to be of service....!

Report I will not be present this quarter for region but Jim N will be filling in for me. I know greater Grand Rapids is super excited to be hosting Mrcna this year and working very hard on the committee. We are also working hard at getting more unity in the area and combining groups/events together. PR still struggles with getting the support it needs but we made it a point to have people announce at their home groups to try and get more involvement.

It brought in $1,467.96. After expenses a donation of over $900 was given to area. We also had a home group put on their annual speaker jam which was a great turn out! Thank you to everyone who came to Friendsgiving yesterday, it was fun! We have a holiday meeting marathon coming up from noon on Christmas day till noon on Christmas. There are flyers on the website! We did have a homegroup host a SPAD workshop, 1 person showed but it was a great way to get the word out about what is going on in NA. There is another homegroup that will be hosting a SPAD workshop on December 8th in Manistee. Thanks for letting me serve.

Great speakers, great food, great fun, the message was carried and embraced by all. Enough funds were raised to cover the deposit for next year, if you missed this year, mark your calendar for next October.

Old Business

1. Spiritual RetreatThe body asked AJ to come back with information about how plausible this is. AJ reports that it is completely plausible and that it would just need support from the areas to bring it to fruition.

This should now be taken back to areas to see if this is something that they would be interested in doing, also if anyone with experience of this capacity would be willing to mentor the AD-HOC committee through this process.

2. MZF attendanceIt is the decision of the body that we were aware of the cost associated with sending the RD/RDA to these events. It is part of their position to attend, and at least one of them need to be in attendance.

3. Guidelines, Standing Rules and MotionsThese have been approved and emailed with last quarters minutes. Areas will be responsible for printing them moving forward. They will be available in the drive.

decided that this would be sent back to the areas to decide the importance of having an MSO position since we have absolved our relationship with them besides the position. It was decided that Bob J would remain in this position serving quarter to quarter until a final decision has been made.

2) MinutesIt was asked of the body how long the secretary has to disperse the minutes. The previous rule was from when we met every other day and it started 10 days. The body decided that this would now be 30 days.

3) Sponsorship Behind the WallsDue to lack of support it was asked of the body to absolve Sponsorship Behind the Walls. It was decided that we wait until after elections for Public Relations next quarter to make this decision.

4) Moving next meeting It was decided by the body that instead of holding the next meeting in Northwoods that it would be moved to Saginaw/ Bay
