Senior Citizens/Medicare

Veterans
• 716 Billion taken from Medicare by the Affordable care Act• Federal government increasing rates after the Election
• Jene will continue to stand up for Senior citizens healthcare.
Senator Apple and Jene met with Lakemary’s board and made their concerns part of the requirements for consumers care:1. Consumers keep their case worker2. No reductions in service or care for any individual3. Development Disabilities Act be included
Jene, as a Majority Leader, brought the prompt pay bill to the oor and it became law. On a recent visit with Dr. Bill Craig and key administration staff, Jene stressed that they should call him with any billing or consumer issues.
Jene brought key issues for our veterans to a vote – became Law: Restructure of Kansas Veterans affairs Commission to help deal with lack of Federal Government management of the V.A. Changed Kansas law to make military experience and training as medics, electricians, truck driving and other experience be recognized by Kansas licensing boards.
First a thank you to all our staff who work hard to care for the people in treatment at our hospital. The 67 jobs transferred here are real stating they have chosen not to commute to Miami county from Johnson County is just negative politics. Yes, the hospital is over bed capacity by 24 patients. We do have adequate staff but it is stressful as is always the case when patient numbers spike. Why? There are over 50 Veterans that have been turned away by the Federal V.A. that are receiving care at our hospital. Jene always takes action for our hospital. Overtime in September is now the lowest since 2011. The LMHT entry level program with Ft. Scott Community college will give entry level new employees real career path opportunity and help keep our direct care staff numbers stable.
• Kansas has now remained under 5% Unemployment 9+months, the 5th lowest in the Nation.• Kansas ranks 14th in growth of Personal Income.• Jene has worked hard to improve our Kansas economy and provide opportunity for your family.

Thank YouA heartfelt Thank-You to all who made my 90th birthday Saturday, Oct. 18, such a memorable occasion! Thanks most to my beloved children Ron Hohenstein and wife Barbara and Vicki Hohenstein Wards and her daughter Britten, who turned the Osawatomie Memorial Hall into a beautiful setting. The cake was lovely and the food delicious. A special Thank-You for all the beloved family and friends who blessed us with their presence and those who couldn’t be here but sent cards or fl owers or called. I feel I’ve had a fantastic life and couldn’t be more fortunate throughout these many years – family, school, work – all of it!
God Bless Us All!Mary Marshall Hohenstein Seamands
