Criteria for Indicator organism

1. Suitable for analysis of all types of water

2. Should be present whenever enteric pathogens are present

3. Should survive longer than the pathogenic die hards

4. Should not reproduce in contaminated water: inflation!

5. Should be harmless to humans

6. Its level should have direct relationship to degree fecal pollution
