• A growing concern over cross contamination, salmonella and other hygienic problems have driven stricter guidelines. What was once acceptable in this market no longer is in many cases.

• Material Selection: In the past painted or nickel plated solutions were

commonly used. Now stainless steel has become a must. • IP Protection: More applications are driving to an IP66, IP67 or IP69K

requirement rather than the typical IP65. • Shape: Square housings with corners and chamfers are no longer

acceptable and round housings with smooth surfaces are specified. • Lubrication: FDA approved grease is critical. • Cleanable: Labels, tags or any difficult to clean accessories are

restricted.

Understanding IP Ratings

<IP65 – Dust tight, protected against dripping or splashing

water.

IP65 – Water spray – Water projected by a nozzle against surface will have no harmful effects.

IP66 – Powerful water jets - High pressure water projected by a nozzle in all directions for 5 minutes.

IP67 – Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when immersed at 1m depth for 30mins.

IP69K – High pressure wash-down of water as well as high temperature (steam cleaning) and caustic chemicals.
