History
FLOSUL Indústria e Comércio de Madeiras Ltda., a company member of Renner
Herrmann S/A group, was founded in March 1970, in Capivari do Sul, RS, Brazil.
At first, we only operated as a forestry company, but as the years went by, our know-
how allowed us to start investing on the management of our own forest resources. Today, we
mainly cultivate species of eucalyptus, specifically the Eucalyptus Grandis.
During the 80’s, this process of diversification was intensified with the implementation of
the Sawmill (a pioneer in Brazil in Eucalyptus break-down), and of the Wood Preservation
Plant. In 1997, through research and development, FLOSUL established its Drying Complex
and the Manufactured Products Unit. In 1999, we acquired the FSC certificate (Forest
Stewardship Council), an organization which promotes the good management of natural and
planted forests.
Over more than 30 years of history, we not only increased our product offering and
established our tradition, but we achieved the recognition of both national and international
markets, as well – tradind our products in Brazil and exporting them to the southwest of Africa,
Europe and the United States.
Our technical improvement allows us to produce from rough lumber to sawn one, and
preserved wood, including wood logs for both energy creation and industrial processes.
Wood Preservation Plant
Our Wood Preservation Plant works specifically with Eucalyptus poles for electric
distribution nets.
In order to show you our company, we selected some photos of it, provided as it follows:
First, we cut our poles according to our forest cut plan.
After that, we transfer the poles from the forest to the wood preservation plant, using
special trucks for loading.
Then, the poles are unloaded by special machines and put into boxes, until production.
For that, we put the poles in a storage where they will be worked: we cut their ends, put
nail plates on them, and clean their body.
Finally, the poles are put in other boxes, where they are prepared to be air dried.
This process takes three or four months to get a better moisture (among 20% and 25%),
before the treatment.
We begin the treatment in accordance to our production plan. Generally, our wood
treatment plant treats 5.000 poles per month.

Bellow, there is some information about the treatment process:
It is simple but highly controlled: lumbers, timbers and plywood are loaded onto tram
cars which move on a large, horizontal treating cylinder.
The cylinder door is sealed, and vacuum is applied to remove air from it and from the
wood cells.
The preservative solution is then pumped into the cylinder, and the pressure is raised to
about 150 pounds per square inch, forcing CCA into the wood. Treating time may vary
according to the species of the Wood, to commodity being treated, and to the amount of
preservative to be impregnated.
At the end of the process, the excess of the treating solution is pumped out of the
cylinder, and kept back into a storage tank for later re-use.
A final vacuum removes the excess of the preservative from wood cells, then the
cylinder door is opened and the trams are pulled out. At this moment, the wood is wet, so it is
maintained on a concrete pad until the complete ceasing of dripping.

After treatment, the poles are pulled to a storage, where they are unloaded, and then
kept in boxes according to their length.
The poles are loaded according to sales ordering.
