Public Records Act
Background• The requirements of the Public Records Act 2005 (PRA) create a
compelling event over the next 2 years for government agencies to implement new or upgrade their existing document management systems.
• Under the Public Records Act, all public offices and local authorities are required to create and maintain full and accurate records in accordance with normal, prudent business practice. They must also be accessible over time.
• Departments and agencies are required to have a framework and plan for implementing the act by 2008. Independent audits of agencies recordkeeping practices will commence in 2010 and take place every 5-10 years.
• Microsoft Office SharePoint will enable Public Sector agencies to meet the requirements of a PRA compliant document management system.

Business Intelligence
Background
• Microsoft’s Public Sector customers are constantly challenged to obtain more “information” from the various data sources within their departments.
• A number either have no BI solutions in place or BI solutions that rely on high end targeted applications and specifically skilled users / analysts.
• Microsoft is in a position to challenge specialist organisations with its broad and highly integrated solution offering.
The Challenge
• Organisations today face numerous data challenges requiring them to:
– make faster and more data-driven decisions
– developers to be more productive and flexible
– managers to reduce their overall information technology (IT) budgets
– Maximize IT productivity by reducing the complexity of developing and supporting database applications.
– Share data across multiple platforms, applications, and devices to make it easier to connect internal and external systems.

Gartner Reference
“Today, the capabilities and integration of its current BI platform offerings have improved significantly, but are still not as mature as those of the market leaders. Microsoft’s BI products will appeal to the large community of Microsoft application developers, and the pricing, packaging and integration with its Office (including PerfomancePoint Server) and SQL Server products will be attractive to organizations that have standardized on the Microsoft information infrastructure.”

Citizen Centric Government
What is Citizen Centric Government?
“A single view of a “citizen” for whole of Government or in an individual
department.”
A true story . . . .
What is Citizen Centric Government?Microsoft CRM
• Customer-facing– Relationship, service and communication
activities via email, phone, web or in person.• Process-focused
– Workflow drives consistent execution.• Team-oriented
– Collaborate with others inside & outside of the organization
Why Does Government Need CRM?
• Citizens now expect the same levels of service and responsiveness from public service providers as they do from private sector service organisations.
• When citizens contact the government, they expect the customer services staff to have access to comprehensive, accurate, and up to date information about them and their interactions.
• There is an expectation and desire from citizens that they can interact with Government agencies in a way that works best for them i.e. Web, Email, Phone etc
• Business intelligence derived from a CRM system can enable “segmentation of customer types” to improve and tailor service delivery.
