Higher microwave power forfaster vessel heatingThe ETHOS EX is equipped with an industrialmagnetron that delivers up to 1,200 watts of power, for rapid heating even of high-throughput rotors.

All stainless-steel constructionThe chassis of the ETHOS EX is made ofcorrosion-resistant stainless steel, notmolded plastic. The cavity and the door areplasma-coated with PTFE to protect the unit.Milestone’s warranty covers the cavitycoating against corrosion for 5 years!

Homogeneous microwavedistributionA microwave diffuser evenly distributes themicrowave field throughout the cavity, preventing localized hot and cold spots.

Convenient, user-centric designThe ETHOS EX door includes a shockresistant double-glass window, for easyviewing of the pressure vessels. The dooropens downward and can be used as aworking platform to facilitate the loading ofvessels into the microwave cavity.

Fast air cooling of vessels forhigher throughputThe ETHOS EX is equipped with a heavy dutyair flow system, placed above the microwavecavity. The air flow rapidly cools the externalsurfaces of the vessels. A solvent-resistantflexible hose connects the exhaust fan to afume hood, ensuring a safe workingenvironment.

Throughput andReproducibility

The Ethos EX is designed to help you make thebest use of your time, while delivering high-quality results. Rapid parallel processing, withminimal need for operator involvement, helpsyour lab to keep up with a large number ofsamples. Meanwhile, advanced process controlfeatures ensure that every sample is processedthoroughly—and under the same repeatableconditions.

* (US Patent 5,270,010)

Simultaneous, unattended sample processingProcess batches of samples in parallel with minimal operatorinvolvement. High throughput minimizes the tendency for samplepreparation to become the bottleneck in a busy analytical lab.

Thorough sample mixingContinuous stirring at elevated temperatures keeps the sample incontact with fresh solvent, maximizing yield.

Integrated temperature controlAn in-vessel temperature probe provides the most precisetemperature monitoring and control. Sample preparation conditionsare repeatable from batch to batch.

Long-term cost effectivenessLow maintenance needs and minimal consumables mean the EthosEX has a low cost of ownership over the long term.

Direct temperature controlThe ATC-FO Fiber-Optic AutomaticTemperature Control system allows fordirect continuous monitoring and controlof a reference vessel. The temperature sensor is housed in athermowell and protected from chemicalattack by a multiple layer of inert PTFE andceramic, ensuring trouble-free operation.

Contact-less solvent sensorfor all vesselsThis sensor monitors vapor concentrationin the entire microware chamber andeffectively controls all vesselssimultaneously, preventing any leakage oforganic solvents.

The ETHOS EX is equipped with the most advanced reaction sensors, including direct temperature control in a reference vessel, and contact-less solvent sensor for all vessels simultaneously.

State-of-the-ArtUser Interface

EasyCONTROL software, simple as 1-2-3Milestone’s new EasyCONTROL software is themost advanced and powerful operating system inthe field of microwave sample preparation.Automatic, real-time monitoring and feedback-based control of multiple parameters offersunsurpassed process control. Simply recall a factorystored program or create a new one. Press “Start,”and the system will automatically follow thedefined temperature or pressure profile, utilizing asophisticated PID algorithm.

Industrial grade touch-screen controller. 6,5” screen with 65.000 colors

VGA resolution 640x480 for sharp process graphics 1 USB port for printer, 2 PS2 ports for mouse and keyboard,

3 RS 232 ports for external devices Methods and runs are saved on a removable flash-card

The ETHOS EX terminal offers the ability to savemethods and runs on a Windows-formatted flashcard. The flash-card can be directly read by anylaptop with a PCMCIA port or, via an adapter, through a USB port. All methods and runs aresaved, and can be transferred to/from the harddrive of the computer. Therefore there is virtuallyunlimited memory for storing all your samplepreparation data. Furthermore, with Milestone’sWindows™-based EasyDOC software, it is possibleto convert the data coming from the ETHOS EXterminal into a standard format readable by anydatabase or spreadsheet software (Excel™, etc.).

The flash card can be removed from the ETHOS EX terminal and introduced into astandard PCMCIA laptop slot to store, view, and transfer methods and processreporting data.

Easy data transfer by EasyDOC Windows-based software

Actual temperature profile. The microwave power isautomatically adjusted, basedon continuous feedback fromthe process sensors, to allowthe reaction to follow thedesired temperature profile.

Ethos EX Major Applications

Effectiveness and Consistency

Solvent Evaporation & RecoveryWith Milestone’s patented vacuum evaporation technology, the ETHOS EX turns intoa true microwave evaporator, allowing the user to carry out safe and completeevaporation of organic solvents. No sample transfer needed, as the evaporation takesplace in the same vessels previously used for digestion/extraction. A complete solventrecovery is ensured by the Milestone’s VAC-2000 vacuum module.
