Charitable Trust (MICT)
INTRODUCTION: As we complete another year at Madinatul Ilm charitable trust (MICT)
a successful philanthropic organization based in Rawalpindi, Pakistan which has
functioned since 2008, it gives us great pleasure to send out our latest newsletter which
covers our activities from July to December 2011. This was an unusual period for
Pakistan in view of the fallout from devastating floods which struck parts of the southern
Sindh province. In response to this calamity, MICTs teams of staff members supported
by volunteers ventured out to some of the most devastated areas to provide emergency
assistance in the shape of temporary shelter, food and other basic needs. Through the
generous support of many of our supporters, notably the UK based Lady Fatemah Trust(LFT), MICT continues to provide emergency relief to victims of the floods in Sindh,
where the crisis has far from ended.
As we venture in to 2012, we appeal to our supporters for collaboration to continue to
help victims of floods in Sindh who live in miserable conditions. For the next six
months, other priority areas for MICT will remain the cause of helping students in need
as well as expanding our focus on healthcare and modest grants for poor entrepreneurs.
As Pakistan battles continuing inflation and unemployment, we are receiving a large
number of requests from many well deserving students who offer the promise of
academic success but lack the financial resources to achieve their academic goals. It
would be a sheer tragedy if they were left without support to fulfill their career
ambitions.
During the last six months from July to December, we are happy to share the case of ten
young women from Pakistans northern areas identified by MICT and sponsored by LFT,
to attend an academic summer camp in Islamabad. At a cost of just U$400 per student
for the three month period, we helped these promising young women to fill their
academic gaps through attending special classes. Now, we are pleased to report that
three of those students have got placements at medical schools across Pakistan whilewe hope that the rest will successfully follow in their foot steps.

MICT has established a successful track record of intervention to support victims ofnatural disasters. During the period under review and through the generous support ofLady Fatemah Trust (LFT), we successfully completed the fourth phase of a housingproject in a rural part of south Punjab. This is an area which was devastated by floods of
2010, forcing many rural dwellers to camp out under the open sky.

Through thegenerous support of our many supporters, notably the UK based Lady Fatemah Trust(LFT), we reached families living in abject conditions and waiting for emergencysupport. We share a list of our targeted locations across the Sindh province where MICT
has worked in the second half of 2011:
The value of education can never be underestimated for it tackles the root cause of
poverty, opening up vast opportunities for economic development. MICT strives to reach
impoverished communities by facilitating students caught in financial need. Thisinitiative is built upon identifying the most deserving students in financial need followed
by appeals to prospective donors for support. We then periodically track progress of
individual students.

Bibi Sakina (AS) water supply project was launched with the support of Lady Fatemah
(AS) Trust to provide safe drinking water in water scarce areas of Pakistan. During the
six month period under review, MICT undertook and successfully completed a water
supply project to benefit approximately 300 students who are currently attending a
school in Dhudial, south of Islamabad. This is a largely water scarce area where the
local residents rely mainly on periodic rainfall. We have identified further projects and
are currently appealing to donors for financial support to undertake them successfully.

In view of Pakistans troubling economic conditions, food security for low income
families has become a major challenge, especially in areas devastated by floods of 2010
and 2011. The Lady Fatemah Trust (LFT) through the support of its donors sponsored a
major initiative for MICT to deliver food packages to flood victims. Just ahead ofRamadan-2011, MICTs volunteers ventured out to their targeted locations for delivering
food packages to families in need. This enabled many malnourished individuals to put
food on their tables during the fasting month of Ramadan-a period when financially
well off Muslims are especially obliged to care for those in need. MICT reached the
following areas of Pakistan ahead of the fasting month:

FUTURE PLANS
As we go forward, our aim is to continue with MICTs dedicated commitment to help
tackle conditions in crisis hit situations while also building up on our past progress to
continue with human welfare projects. We have put in place a professionally sound
system of financial management involving periodic audits by a professional accountant
while we have internally enforced strict terms surrounding day to day financial
management. In time, we hope for MICT to evolve and attain a prominent status among
high profile and credible community service organizations in Pakistan. Please send us an
email on [email protected] for further information. Also, do visit our website;
