Helping Our Customers Become

More Energy Efficient

2013

Energy Efficiency – What’s It All About?

Helping customers:

• Manage energy use

• Reduce costs

• Benefit the environment by reducing load

demand which reduces emissions

HomeCheck®

A free energy assessment of a customer’s home can lead to significant savings for years to come.

• Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota and Nebraska homes built before Dec. 31, 2002, may qualify. o Customers must have heating energy supplied directly by MidAmerican

Energy for an on-site audit.

• Customers may receive the following measures installed free-of-charge: o Energy-efficient bulbs (Iowa and Illinois only)

o Energy-saving showerheads

o A water heater insulation blanket

o Energy-saving faucet aerators

o Up to six feet of water pipe insulation

o A programmable thermostat (South Dakota only); a fee of $30 plus tax for customers in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska

HomeCheck® (continued)

• An energy specialist will check insulation levels in the home and advise the customer

if he/she is eligible for insulation rebates.

o Iowa and Nebraska rebates are 70% of the installed cost, with a $750 cap each for attic,

sidewall and foundation insulation.

o South Dakota rebates are 60% of the installed cost for attic insulation and 30% of the

installed cost for sidewall insulation, with a $1,000 cap for each area.

o Illinois rebates are 70% of the installed cost, with a $600 cap for any combination of attic and

sidewall insulation. An additional 70% of the approved amount for basement insulation also

is available, with a separate $600 cap.

o MidAmerican Energy can arrange for an insulation contractor, the customer may choose

his/her own contractor or the customer may self-install (no reimbursement for labor on a self-

install).

• Visit www.midamericanenergy.com/homeaudit to complete a HomeCheck® Online

energy audit.

Residential Equipment

• Rebates are given to customers who purchase and

install qualifying appliances, and heating, cooling and

water heating equipment fueled by natural gas or

electricity supplied directly by MidAmerican Energy.

• Rebate amounts vary depending on energy efficiency

ratings of specific models and by state.

• View specific requirements and rebate amounts by state

at www.midamericanenergy.com/ee.

Appliance Recycling

• MidAmerican Energy works with a qualified contractor to safely

remove and dispose of old qualifying appliances in working

condition.

o Freon® captured

o Iowa only; will be offered for South Dakota electric customers in spring 2013

• Rebates available for qualifying appliances:

Freezers $50 rebate

Refrigerators $50 rebate

Window air conditioners $25 rebate

• Refrigerators built before 1990 can use two to three times more

energy than a new high-efficiency model.

800-621-2757.

SummerSaverSM

• Single-family owner-occupied homes in Iowa, Illinois and South Dakota with a central

air conditioning unit or an air-source heat pump may be eligible.

• A small cycling device installed on the siding of a customer’s home near the central

air conditioning unit and wired into the existing thermostat control circuit acts as a

switch, allowing MidAmerican Energy to cycle air conditioners off and on during peak

usage days June through September.

• Participants receive a $40 end-of-season incentive the first year and a $30 incentive

in following years, if they participate for the entire cycling season. If participation ends

during the four-month period, the incentive will be prorated.
