Tuesday, April 2nd, we will have a special presentation for parents from the Crime Victims Center. The purpose of this presentation is to share ways parents can,

Prevent Detect, and Report

any instances of child abuse. Please join us at 7pm in the North Coleman Library to learn ways to make sure your child is safe, including the 10 Rules for Safety for Children. 4 th Annual Literacy Celebration Join us at Centereach High School to celebrate reading, writing, and speaking across Middle Country. Students will share their favorite published writing piece, recite original poems in the Poetry Cafe, and Take a Stand by defending a position. There will also be authors there for you to chat with and purchas signed copies of picture and chapter books. This is always a fun evening. Hope to see you there!!

Class PlacementsIt will soon be time to start creating classes for the 2019-2020 school year. Recommendations from your child’s current teacher is a major factor when creating classes that have a supportive environment. There is often insight you can share as well. Any parent who has a special circumstance is encouraged to write a letter and submit it to the principal’s office. Please be sure to include the specific situation you feel should be considered. Staff often changes over the summer, so Middle Country does not permit requests for specific teachers. You may want to include a teaching style in your letter. You may also include, if it would benefit your child, not to be placed with a particular schoolmate. All letters should be addressed to Ms. Rodney, and be received in the office between April 8, 2019 and May 3, 2019. Please include your child’s name and their current teacher in your letter. Many factors go into creating each class, so please understand that we may not be able to accommodate every request.

Your child’s placement for the 2019-2020 school year will be included in the summer mailing.

Book of the Month Our school-wide book for April is Ivan, the Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla, by Katherine Applegate. This picture book is adapted from the chapter book, The One and Only Ivan, by the same author. Both books remind the reader about the imporance of friendship and caring, as well as the dignity that is owed to everyone.
