Middle East Foldable SS7G7 – THE STUDENT WILL EXPLAIN THE IMPACT
OF LOCATION, CLIMATE, PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS, DISTRIBUTION OF NATURAL
RESOURCES AND POPULATION DISTRIBUTION OF SOUTHWEST ASIA (MIDDLE EAST).
BELL-RINGER: HOW DO NATURAL RESOURCES IMPACT HOW PEOPLE LIVE?
Natural Resources: Natural Gas and Oil
Two of the most important natural resources are:
Natural gas
Oil
They bring wealth into the region and are needed by much of the world.
Over half the world’s known oil reserves are located in the Middle East.
Importance of Oil
The Southwest Asian countries with the largest reserves of natural gas and oil are:
Saudi Arabia
Iran
Iraq
Kuwait
These countries have seen tremendous growth in national wealth and an improved standard of living in the past 50 years.
Some other countries have smaller reserves, especially around the Arabian Gulf.
Those countries without the reserves have had a much harder time improving living conditions for their people.
This difference has lead to much conflict.
Work Session
If you were not here Friday, you will have to ask somebody near you how to make the foldable.
I will hand out articles, use the articles to complete your foldable. Put as much important information as you can on the foldable.
The better your information, the better your grade. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE!!!
You may need your geography textbook for the foldable section titled “population” (See pg. 124-125 for population and density).
You will have 20 minutes for each country, and then I will tell you to get with a partner next to you to discuss responses for 5 minutes (must have done same article).
There is no talking during the independent portion, when you get with a partner there should be only whispering.
Do NOT write on the articles I give you and take care of them because they will be used by every class the next 2 days.
Closing
Get with a person you have not worked with yet to discuss findings and underline what you find together to be the one most important bit of information found for each section of each country.
