MOTORING TIDBITSFor years the Kia Rio has stood out as a fuel efficiency and over-all value leader, receiving accolades such as a 2010 ConsumerGuide® Automotive "Recommended Vehicle" and being includedon the "Most Fuel-Efficient Cars for the Buck" list by Forbes.comfor the 2009 model year. This week the fuel-sipping Rio addedanother award to its trophy case when the sub-compact sedan wasnamed a "Best Overall Value" on the Most Fuel-Efficient Vehicleslist by TrueCar.com in the USA.

The Ford Focus' claim to be Ireland's most successful ever cargained extra currency today when sales surpassed the 100,000mark. The milestone has been achieved in less than 13 years, mak-ing the Focus the fastest selling car in Irish motoring history

The Peugeot 207 has been named as the most reliable car made bya European company. The news came from Warranty Direct, based on data for cars aged three and seven years old.

The healthy level of 2011 car sales continued in Ireland duringMarch with Ford taking the top spot in the sales charts. Accordingto figures just released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry(SIMI), a total of 14,426 cars were registered last month, up 785units or a 5.8 percent increase on the same month last year. Fordachieved a car sales volume of 1,803 units to take the top slot fol-lowed by Volkswagen with 1,786 and Toyota with 1,523. Commenting on the figures, Eddie Murphy, Chairman andManaging Director of Ford Ireland, said: "In spite of the doomand gloom on the banking front, car sales across Ireland remainedstrong with a 5.8 percent increase on the figure for March 2010.Overall, the market is benefiting from the extended scrappagescheme and a pent up demand from customers who have deferredpurchases over the last two years - this is particularly evident in amore robust fleet sector".

Participants at a Semperit media briefing last week heard that thereplacement tyre market in Ireland for the mainstream tyre brandsincreased by 12 percent during 2010.Semperit also said we know from our tyre dealer customers thatsome of these second hand tyre shops are fitting tyres on cars thatare not roadworthy. We are calling on the RSA and the govern-ment to put in place some kind of regulations or standards for thesale of second hand tyres".

ROAD RACE The recent Ballintotis ‘4’ Mile Road Race was a huge suc-cess with 559 competitors taking part, a figure that is likely to representone of the biggest at any mid week fixture during 2011. Clear blue skiesand warm temperatures helped create a carnival atmosphere at our pictur-esque lake side location where a massive community involvementensured the vast ranks of runners were afforded a very special welcome toBallintotis. As for the race itself, James McCarthy from the promoting club, EastCork AC, produced a top class winning performance of 19 minutes 34seconds whilst Niamh Roe was equally impressive when becoming thefirst female to cross the finish line.Apart from the race, the addition of the four-mile walk also proved a pop-ular event with almost 100 people participating. The race organising committee wish to extend a sincere ‘thank you’ to themany people without whose help, assistance and support the entire eventwould not have been possible. All proceeds from the race and walk godirectly to the Community Centre Building Fund.A 15 minute video of the race night is now available by logging on towww.ballintotis.com.Finally, just a quick word on the availability of T-shirts - due to the huge number of participants a slight shortage resulted. Those competitors who did not receive their souvenir T-shirt have beenregistered and may collect them at the GAA Pavilion in Midleton on thisThursday evening ahead of the Midleton 5-Mile Road Race. East Cork Junior A Football Championship Castlemartyr 0-13Bride Rovers 1-6 A fantastic win for Castlemartyr in the 3 roundof the football championship played in Lisgoold last Sunday night.Castlemartyr lead for almost the entire match but this is not to sayit was an easy victory as the lads had to show great character towithstand a Bride Rovers comeback in the second half.Castlemartyr had to start without the big presence of RobO'Donovan at full back after he failed to recover from a hamstringinjury. Brian Smiddy moved from the corner to full back and hada solid game throughout. Castlemartyr were first to score throughwith Maurice Hodnett raising a white flag after a good pass fromDonacha O'Tuama. Bride Rovers responded with 2 points of theirown to take the lead before a neat Barra O'Tuama point squaredthe game again. Bride Rovers then had a pointed free but it was tobe their last score of the half as Castlemartyr upped a gear anddominated the game until the half time whistle. First Maurice slot-ted over a free after a foul on Jimmy Smiddy. Mark Bowens foundthe range after being set up by Donacha O'Tuama and Mauriceagain pointed another free after Damien McAulliffe was fouled.Brian Lawton then had a brace of points, one from a free andanother fantastic individual effort. This gave Castlemartyr a 4point cushion at half time with the score board reading 7 points to3. Bride Rovers started well in the second half and had a point onthe board early to reduce the defecit. Jimmy Smiddy then slottedover a point after a Brian Lawton free came back off the post.Brian Rovers again pointed to keep in touch but the accurateJimmy Smiddy again raised another white flag for the Reds.Maurice Hodnett extended the Castlemartyr lead with anotherpoint as we now had a 4 point advantage half way through the sec-ond half. Michael john Cremin was then called upon to make asmart save to keep our lead after a Bride Rovers attacker cut infrom the wing to have a shot for goal. James Barry was the intro-duced as he was to make a huge difference to the Castlemartyrattack for the rest of the match. The game was to have some dramahowever as Bride Rovers were awarded a penalty after one of theirattackers was pushed just as he was about to shoot for goal andthey converted this spot kick to only leave the minimum betweenthe sides. It was at this point Castlemartyr showed their characteras they did not let Bride Rovers score again. Three unansweredpoints gave Castlemartyr victory by four. Jimmy Smiddy pointedagain after some good work by James Barry and James got a welldeserved point himself after that. Mark Bowens then got the insur-ance point and Castlemartyr now go on the meet Carraig na bhFearin the quarter final. The team on the day was : Dylan Cahalane(capt), Christopher Shanahan, David Mulcahy, Ronan O'Donovan, ShaneO'Brien, Christian Daly, Conor Evans, Sean O'Meara, Kevin Daly,Christopher Power, Adam Daly, Temitayo Abdullah and RyanMcConville.Eastern Football v Nemo We travelled to Trabeg on Easter Mondaymorning for a game against Nemo where both sides had the bare 13 toplay so we again played the smaller number game on the big field and theboys most of whom had been involved in the same situation on the previ-ous Saturday played some fantastic football which was applauded andcomplimented on by the home club to win a good game and secure ourfirst win of the football league. The football played showed just how goodthese lads could be in time with more football exposure. Our Team was :Shane O'Brien (Capt), David Mulcahy, Ryan O'Reagan, Kelvin Hickey,Dylan Cahalane, Alan Swarbrick, Temitayo Abdullah, Sean O'Meara,Kevin Daly, Christian Daly, Eoin Moloney, John O'Dwyer and RyanMcConville, Central Football v Sam MaguiresOn Wed night Apr 27 we made thelong trip to Dunmanway to play the home side in the league. Again wecame up against a club whose first game is with the bigger ball and theirgame know how showed through in a tough second half when they pulledaway to win a great of football by 3 pts. Again we had our chances to winthis game but luck and football "know-how" came against us in the latterstages of the game. We have yet to have our full panel together for any ofour league games and once we do get everyone together we should be amatch for most teams in our group. Our Panel on the night was: DavidMulcahy (capt), Dylan Cahalane, Temitayo Abdullah, Conor Evans, RyanO'Regan, Kevin Mulcahy, Conor Tynan, Adam Daly, Kevin Daly, JohnO'Dwyer, Christian Daly, Alan Swarbrick, Shane O'Brien, RyanMcConville, Eoin Moloney, Christopher Shanahan, Cormac Higgins andConor O'Farrell. Upcoming games: Fri May 6th Football League home v Valley Rovers7pm; Sun May 8th Football Championship away v Canovee at 10.30am Again as we rotate the squad between each game to ensure all boys getgood playing time we will send texts to the boys required for each gameand would ask that all reply ASAP if they cannot make a game so we canfill the slot on panel and put your name down for another game instead.Fe 9'sOn Saturday the 30th of April we welcomed the Rockies toMidleton for the first meeting between these two sides. The games wereplayed on the fantastic grounds of Midleton CBS on what turned out to bea beautiful morning. The Rockies arrived with 26 players and we had thesame so we made three pitches and formed three even teams of two 9'sand an 8.This format worked a treat as all games turned out very even, allMidleton teams played each Blackrock team for 15mins each. Junior Hurling League Lios gCul 1.12 Ballygiblin 2.10The journey to Ballygiblin proved unsuccessful as we left the picturesqueNorth Cork venue without the league points in a very tight and closeencounter on Tuesday evening. The concession of a last minute goal wasto prove costly, as it afforded us no opportunity to regroup and we had nochance to reel back in our hosts who prevailed by the narrowest of mar-gins. The final result was somewhat frustrating, as we wasted numerousopportunities to wrap up victory, many of which we spurned, droppingchances short and wide in a frustrating final quarter. Cathal Cashman, solid and dependable in a sound second half performance, stepped up tothe mark on a key performance from the young and improving defenderwhile Rob Smart was our stand out performer in a somewhat wasteful for-ward division. John Cronin scored our sole goal, which, on another nightmay have been the winning score, but fate, and poor shooting was tobefell us before the long journey home.Minor Football League Lios gCul 3.10 Tracton 1.04Momentum continues with Owen Hegarty's charges as the MinorFootballers notched another success, now reaching a three wins out offour ratio in this competitive league. Cian Scannell was exceptional in hisfinishing, with his two goal burst proving a major turning point in anencounter that was, up to that point, somewhat tighter than the final scoremight suggest. John Cashman, once again, was very solid in the pivotalcentre back role, as he controlled the play from his berth at the heart ofthe defence. Positional switches and astute management of resourcesworked in a very effective way, as the constant movement of the forwarddivision, in particular, caused countless problems for our visitors to PaircLios gCul on Bank Holiday Monday.Championship, early July vShamrocks. Under 13 Football Lios gCul 1.05 Tracton 6.05A second visit by the Minane Bridge outfit to Pairc Lios gCul in six dayssaw our U13's fall in a very exciting game to our visitors who deservedvictory on a very breezy but warm Saturday afternoon in Pairc Lios gCul.Having played well in the fiirst half, and outscored our opponents by sixscores to three, the old axim of "goals win matches" was never truer as weconceded three goals in that opening perriod to trail by the slenderest mar-gin at the break. Sean Nagle was our best forward in a positive outing, best supported by Liam O'Shea who curled two beautiful points and CianHealy, whose brave successful bid for our sole goal gave us a great lift.Having restricted our opponents to two further solitary points with tenminutes remaining, a brilliant team move saw Healy fouled for a penalty, that, if converted, would tie the game. Brilliant centre back CiaranCashman stepped forward to take the resultant spotter, and, striking itwith wonderful force, saw the ball unluckily rocket off the crossbar, andrebound almost forty metres out the field. Our visitors seemed rejuvenat-ed by this let off, and despite our best efforts, they rounded off their vic-tory in style with some late scores for a deserved victory.Under 12 Football A road win for the young blues over Ballinacurra onWednesday keeps momentum boiling, and preserves the 100% "away"record for Paul Whelan's charges, in an encounter where James Murphy(in a rare "lar na pairce" role) Dara Colleary, Joseph Murphy (whose goalwas out of the top drawer) and Alan O'Reilly were the pick of a veryimpressive team performance.Under 8 Blitz A wonderful festival of hurling at Castlemartyr onSaturday saw our young side take on Watergrasshill, Cloyne andKLilleagh - Itas in a County Board organised Under 8 blitz, and, follow-ing a great morning of excitement, it's fair to say that the future looksbright based on the performance of this very talented group. All playersgot loads of game time, and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to test ourskills in a very enjoyable format, which was played on the Go Games con-cept. Well done to all concerned. Here's to a long and enjoyable year ofentertainment like this. CONGRATULATIONS Another Munster Champion in our village - thistime a wonderful performance by Caoilin Hickey who anchored Cork tovictory in the Munster Ladies Football Championship Final against Kerry.Congratulations from all at CLCG Lios gCul to Caolin , her mum and dad,Nora and John, and brother Cathal, who is also showing similar ability inour under age teams. Names to watch for the fututre, no doubt. All roads lead to Páirc Uí Rinn next Sat 7th May for the opening game ofthe Senior Football against Vally Rovers. A lot of injuries have curtailedour preparation but we have to hope for the best. Colm Lyons throws inthe leather at 6-30. Both teams operate at Div 2. Aghada have played 5wining two. On the other hand Valleys have played 4 games wining oneand drawing with Na Piarsaigh. Aghada's best game was against NaPiarsaigh, when they played outstanding football on the opening day ofthe league. Aghada other win was over old rivals Glenville. Both teamslost heavily to Newcestown. So it is shaping up to a contest that will go tothe wire. Good luck lads. Last Sunday night we had the last run outAgainst St Nicks down in Rostellan. Aghada opened well enough to leadat the short whistle by six points to three. On resumption we added a pointbut the Saints hit back to score five points on trot. Midleton U12 Quarter Final of The Cup home to Avondale 17th April2011 Midleton 7 Avondale 1The first division champions took on the might of Premier LeagueAvondale in the quarter final of the cup at Knockgriffin on Sunday after-noon. Playing a team up a division is always difficult but now we are alsoPremier Division and should show no fear from anyone. It was with thatattitude that the Magpies took to the field and from the first whistle to thefinal they tore Avondale to pieces. Only four minutes in and Garan wenton a surging run beating three on the way and unleashed an unstoppableshot past the goalies diving right hand. On fifteen minutes Christian Dalypopped up with number two after the midfield fought for the ball and puthim through. Just three minutes later Avondale had a corner whichMidleton cleared and in classic counter attacking fashion Garan finishedputting the ball into the net. At this time Midleton were on fire givingexhibition football. Another three minutes and Garan had his hat trick, twenty minutes gone and that made it four nil. On twenty five possibly thegoal of the game came from a free that was awarded after Matthew Lambwas kicked in the face. The play was halted while he got attention thenwith the ball in the centre circle with Garan standing over it, quickly heplayed in an inch perfect ball down the right to China who then pushed itpast the oncoming defender when he got to the byline he put in a sweetcross to where Matthew had ghosted in and he then volleyed it into thecorner of the net. Dreamland. The best thirty minutes we played this sea-son. H/T 5-0In the second Midleton still pressed with China coming more into thegame. Andrew looking very dangerous showing some great movement upfront and Barry having his usual top class performance. With the defensetotally on top Ross, Cogs, Padraig and the lively Rian all in total controla true team performance. It was not long when number six came from thehead of Andy after another quality cross from China. Avondale did getone back after they squeezed one past the impressive Corey in theMidleton goal. There was still time for scorer supreme Christian to nabour seventh and his second. F/T 7-1How do you pick a man of the match from eleven men of the matches?Today one player played exactly as his coaches asked of him. His runsopened up for others to score and he even got one himself. That man isAndrew McMahon. Really well played Andy, I know of no other who hasa bigger heart on the soccer pitch. Congrats Andy.Crosshaven 1 Midleton 3 Last game of the season of a sunny afternoonin crosshaven. The game started off very well with a goal from AndrewWilliams our right back, but then Andy was a striker.Crosshaven were on the back foot for a lot of the first half and defendedwell, our second came from this year’s top scorer Kalem Deady.Crosshaven did get back into the game as they pulled one back. Theycame was settled when Killian Deady hit a shot from 25 yards into the topcorner to make it three one. This year only two teams get promoted fromdiversion 1 so we will be here again next year. On a sad note I would liketo pass on our condolences to the Deady family from all the team andcoaching staff on Sunday our three players lost their grandfather JohnDeady, John was a great supporter of the team for many a year coming toall our games not only to cheer on josh, Kalum and Killian but the wholeteam john will be missed but not forgotten.U11 Division 6: Passage A 2 - Midleton A 6 Any problems Midletonhave had this season are not due to ability but due to inconsistency oftenstarting slowly in games before getting into their stride. Such was thecase here. In the first half they made a number of chances and TomScanlon was prominent making a number of opportunities for himself andothers and was a constant threat. However, they converted only one (AlexMarij) following good work down the left by Luke Smith but this wassandwiched between two strikes from Passage, the first was a tremendousfree kick that flew into the top of the corner from the left hand side. Thesecond half saw Midleton at their best and five goals turned the gamearound completely. Alex Marij scored what could be the goal of the sea-son from the right hand of the box, a curler into the top corner. Goals fol-lowed from Chigozie Igboanusi who outpaced the defence and Luke

Smith. Cal Baldwin who had a great game scored a fine fifth beforeMichael Mullins rounded the game off. Killian Leahy, David O’Sullivanand Leon Cahill performed well at the back and with Adam Morris, ColinEdgebe and Kieran O’Reilly they have a really solid centre. Midfield andattack have some gifted young players and Midleton are finding out thatexcellent play needs a strong work ethic if they are to reach their poten-tial.Result 24th April 2011 U13 Div 3 Midleton 4-0 ButtevantConor Fitzgerald 3, Jack Enright 1 Although not playing at our best wecomfortably saw off the challenge of Buttevant despite missing a fewplayers through injury and holidays. We started off well enough scoringafter 4mins when Conor Fitzgerald continued his rich scoring vein withan excellent strike from the edge of the box. The lead was doubled whena low cross by Conor was finished on the line by Jack Enright on 18mins,the remainder of the half was a pretty low key affair as we struggled toget our passing game going. The second half saw us create chance after chance with several playersguilty of going for power rather than precision, as several shots were driv-en straight at their keeper. We were well on top now with Joe Wyer andthe defence having little to do, and we eventually scored a third with aneat finish by Conor on 46mins and he completed a well earned hat-trickon 56mins with another tidy finish.A funny game where despite not being at our very best we ran out 4-0winners but the score line could have been easily more any other day ifwe had ourshooting bootson. Not diffi-cult to pickMOM thisweek as hewas far andaway our bestplayer with agreat all rounddisplay and ahat-trick toboot, ConorF i t z g e r a l dwould take theaccolades thisweek.Midleton U10 Girls Well done to the Midleton U10 Girls who won alltheir games at the blitz in Midleton last Sunday.

Driven by adefensive solidity that yielded few opportunities to our opponents, and matched in a positive attack which yielded 1.03 sharedamongst the brilliant defenders (Brian O'Leary 1.00, Moss Connell,Noel Connery and Conor Walsh 0.01 each) this was a victory fash-ioned from granite like defense and brilliant impulse attack. Westarted well with Barry Aherne recording a pair for openers, matched by accurate free success by Wayne Kingston (who had abrilliant hour in making himself available for the accurate throughball) and by the clever link play of veteran Kevin O'Shea. The con-cession of a goal from a converted penalty, somewhat against therun of play, gave Glanmire a slender interval advantage, but, oncethe second period settled, our side was dominant, with flying wingbacks O'Connell and Walsh superb throughout. A converted penal-ty by inspirational skipper O'Leary could have been added to by aflying John Cronin surge which whizzed the wrong side of theupright. A clever interplay found Kevin O'Shea loose inside whointellegently opted for the white flag score to keep the score boardticking over in our favor when a goal looked on. Under 12 League Lios gCul 3.06 Sliabh Rua 6.06 Wednesday night saw the visit of the Ballymartle / Belgooly com-bination to a busy Pairc Lios gCul , where our boys , fresh from awin over Cloyne last week came back to earth against a more bal-anced visiting combination . This year is proving a roller coasteryear for our boys , and with games vs. Mayfield , Brian Dilons ,Ballinacurra and Ballinhassig to come , more will be learned forsure. Jason Collins and Liam Chandler continued their fine goalscoring form , and Shane Murray capped a solid second half per-formance with a great finish to a good team move . Cian Healy con-tinued his impressive early season form at centre back , and wasbest supported by an ever improving Tom Howard at midfield ,while James Murphy was our stand out performer with a series ofreflex saves . LOTTO No one matched the lucky numbers 5 , 19 and 24 this week , so arollover starts again after Timmy's great win last week .Consolationprize winners this week were Barry Ahern , Darren Stack , MickO'Shea and Noel Hallihan . The next draw will take place on 26thin Woods Bar.

Junior A Football Championship Midleton 0-12 Dungourney 0-11.- Our Junior A footballers came through their latest Championship fix-ture recently when they overcame a gallant Dungourney team by asingle point. Tha game was played in glorious sunshine inCastlemaryr. In the first quarter Dungourney were the stronger teamwinning most of the breaks and carrying the game to Midleton.Dungourney led by 0-5 to 0-3 at this stage. Midleton lost JamieO'Mahony to a back injury and he was ably replaced by Keith Ryan. The second quarter belonged to Midleton as we upped our game andkicked some glorious points, notably from Willie O'Brien, JohnKeane and Keith Ryan. At half time we led 0-9 to 0-06. The secondhalf was only 4 minutes old when Sean Corcoran suffered a bad ankleinjury in an accidental collision. The game was held up while Seanwas removed to hospital via ambulance. Padraig Dalton was intro-duced into a revamped Midleton team. Shortly after Padraig O'Shearetired with a hamstring injury. All the injuries and delays seemed tounsettle Midleton. Dungourney rallied and tied up the game with onlya couple of minutes to go. Dungourney looked the more likely win-ners as they had the momentum. A pointed free from Stephen Moorewith two minutes to go edged Midleton back in front and we used ourexperience in the last couple of minutes to hold on for the win. Welldone to the Mentors and players who manged to secure the winagainst strong opponents and despite the long delay and upset causedby Sean's injury. Midleton now face Carrigtwohill in a quarter finalwhich has to played in the next two weeks. Team: Brian Behan, SeanHennessy, Sean Corcoran, Barry Fitgerald, Jamie O'Mahony, SeamusO'Farrell, Eoin Walsh, Patrick O'Mahony, Aidan Ryan, John Keane,Declan Ryan, Kieran Mulcahy, Willie O'Brien, Padraig O'Shea,Stephen Moore. Subs used Keith Ryan, Padraig Dalton and DavyO'BrienJunior A Football Championship Midleton 3-16 Russell Rovers 0-03 - Midleton had an easy win over Russell Rovers in the losers roundof the Junior A football championship played on Monday 18th atBallinacurra. Midleton got off to a good start leading 0-06 to 0-00after ten minutes. We continued to add on scores and the result wasnever in doubt.Junior Hurling League Midleton 1-08 Carrignavar 0-12 - Our JuniorA hurlers lost their latest League game against Carrignavar inMidleton on Wednesday last. We had not got our strongest team outbut the performance on the night was not good enough to secure thepoints.Fe 13 Our U-13 Panel continued their hurling league campaign withgames v Donoughmore and Blackrock recently. First up was a Fridayevening trip on April 15th to Donoughmore for an Eastern Regionleague game where due to a clash with other games we had to supple-ment our U-13 Squad with some of the U-12 panel and these boysshowed up very well on the night. The blend of enthusiasm of theseU-12 players and the old experienced heads like Liam, Dylan, Shane,Conor E, Dion & Kevin D. saw us through to a comfortable win onthe night. Our Panel on the night was Dylan Cahalane (Capt), TommyO'Connell, Evan O'Meara, John O'Dwyer, Kelvin Hickey, CormacHiggins, Eoin Moloney, Conor Evans, Kevin Daly, Sean O'Leary,Dion O'Neill-Hill, Liam Franklin, Harry Wall, Shane O'Brien,Andrew Nestor, Sean Barrett & Conor O'Farrell. On Monday April18th we played host to Blackrock in the Central Region league andafter a very slow and laboured first half - which may be attributed tothe previous evenings late outing by some squad members - we turnedit around in the second half with a much better and more committedperformance to win narrowly in the end. Our Squad for this game was: Padraig O'Brien (Capt), Eoin Moloney, Conor Evans, TemitayoAbdullah, Adam Daly, Kevin Mulcahy, Ryan McConville, JordanRoche, Christopher Shanahan, Garan Manley, David Mulcahy,Christian Daly, Ryan O'Reagan, Liam Franklin, Christopher Power,Shane O'Brien, Sean O'Leary and Kevin Daly.FLAG DAY - our Juvenile Club annual Flag Day took place on EasterSaturday April 23rd at Hurley's SuperValu from 8am to 8pm. Contact Ray Rochford to bookyour place on one of the days. Book early to avoid disappointment. Junior A Football Championship On Sunday evening lastGlenbower Rovers travelled to Ballinacurra to take on East Corkrivals Erins Own on the third round of the Championship. On a dampmiserable bank holiday evening which left conditions slippery to saythe least, it took fifteen minutes for the opening score to arrive and itwas Erins Own who drew first blood and cruised into an early lead, with 3 unanswered points. Mark Landers opened our account fol-lowed quickly by Sean Long before Mark Landers rattled the net andadded another point before half time. We went in at the break 1-3 to6 points. Both teams traded scores with little between the sides untilErins Own were awarded a penalty which was despatched beyond netminder Shane Scully, to put them 2 points in front, a lead at which theyheld onto until the 27th minute, then popped up Joe Deane with 2points from play to see us all square at the whistle at 1-9 apiece. Extratime beckoned. A point a piece was the outcome after 10 minutes ofextra time. The final 10 minutes saw both teams push for the elusivewin and with one minute to go the score stood at 1-11 apiece, and thena free on the 30 yard line was slotted over the bar by none other thanJoe Deane. To see a final score of 1-12 to 1-11. The quarter final isprovisionally pencilled on for 8th May. Our opponents our nearneighbours Fr. O'Neills. Time and Venue to be confirmed. Junior Hurling Results junior hurling div 3 north Killeagh 6-10Castlelyons 0-10. This game was played in Castlelyons on Thursday21st. This was very competitive we scored the goals and they failedto put away their chances to give a misleading score line. The dynam-ic Mike Fitzgerald at mid-field kept a good supply of ball travelling tohis forwards where a rampant Ger Collins bagged three goals. Allplayers contributed well. Junior Hurling Div 3 North: Killeagh 2-6, St. Catherines 1-7. Twomore points were bagged in Ballynoe on Monday 25th in a doggedencounter where the champagne hurling of last Thursday was replacedby a great workman like display that ground out a result to be proudof. We had no star displays and every one made significant contribu-tion, but it should be noted that Shane Scully notched 2 goals and 3points from play.

After raising a staggering €250,000 last year for Down SyndromeIreland (DSI), Tour de Munster, an annual four day charity cyclewhich sees amateur cyclists cycling over 600km around the sixcounties of Munster, has once again announced Down SyndromeIreland (Munster branches) as its chosen beneficiary of this year'scycle which takes place from Thursday, 11th to Sunday, 14thAugust. This good news also coincides with Down SyndromeIreland's 40th anniversary and fund-raiser, Michael O'Gorman, who has a son David with Down Syndrome, is delighted to be cho-sen again this year. Speaking at the launch Michael said: "Lastyear was amazing and we couldn't have expected more from thisgreat fund-raising event. We feel honoured to have been selectedtwice as it shows Tour de Munster care just as much about thecharity as we do. We have been around for 40 years and eventhough we have achieved so much in the charity, it's great to getoutside support from others." Michael went on to say: "Our goal inDSI is to assist children born with Down Syndrome to be as inde-pendent as possible. To achieve this it is imperative that when theyare young they have access to speech therapy and occupationaltherapy and as they grow older we want to help them with otherareas of their lives such as independent living and employmentopportunities. The objective is to ensure that each individual isdeveloped to his/her full potential and to help people with DownSyndrome make their own futures as bright and independent aspossible. This all takes funds and through the great work of theTour de Munster cyclists more young people with DownSyndrome will be helped in a practical way." Tour de Munsterorganiser, Paul Sheridan, is already fully under way in his trainingand is looking forward to the event. Paul says: "We talk about peo-ple with 'special needs'. But in DSI we've found people with veryspecial abilities: The ability to make us feel very special by sup-porting them and helping to raise funds for vital therapy and train-ing. We're privileged to be working with Down Syndrome Irelandagain this year and with the help of the great people of Munster weare very hopeful that we'll honour the hope which these peoplehave placed in all of us." Paul also thanks everyone who has gotbehind Tour de Munster: "We are very grateful to the many com-panies who've already got behind the Tour with generous dona-tions - all of which go to DSI Munster branches. We are now rely-ing on public support and hope for a repeat of the incredible gen-erosity we saw last year. The DSI slogan is 'Share The Journey' andwe hope that our tour will see a lot of supporters do just that bothdirectly and indirectly. The DSI logo shows 'helping hands' and weall have a chance to give a helping hand through the tour's fund-raising effort. If everyone helps a little then it will help quite a lot."Media partners for this year's event are the Irish Examiner, RedFM, Spin South West, Clare FM, Tipp FM and WLR FM.
