Press Release - MDX-500 Series Launch Midtronics Launches the First Aftermarket Start - Stop Battery Test er World’s First Aftermarket Start-Stop Battery Tester Houten, January 17 th 2017 Midtronics today announced the release of the first battery tester that addresses the need for testing all battery types, including start-stop battery technology. Until today that need has remained unanswered in the aftermarket 1 . “Current battery management equipment has been able to service regular lead-acid, GEL and AGM batteries. Start-Stop batteries – whether named Enhanced, Improved, Advanced Flooded, Extended Cycle Mat or Life – until now could not be diagnosed properly or the results were unreliable,” said Sandor de Haan, General Manager Midtronics BV. “The MDX- 500 Series have an algorithm designed specifically for testing EFB type batteries.” <IMAGE 1: Product Pack Shot; CAPTURE: “The MDX-500 Series Battery Tester services all battery technologies currently available.”> Why is it important? Battery problems in recent years have continued to grow as the number one breakdown statistic to 35.7% in 2015. In the next 5 years AGM numbers remain the same (41%), whereas car manufacturers are growing the number of EFB batteries used in new vehicles up to 51%. The ordinary SLI batteries will continue to fall back to 8%. “The way cars are being used changes by means of their driving patterns, accessories and in particular a technology such as Start-Stop. To cope with this new demand for energy the battery manufacturers designed specific Start-Stop batteries. Midtronics therefor designed new algorithms to accurately and reliably test these batteries,” says Leon Janssen, Product Manager, Midtronics BV. “Only by continuously characterizing battery technologies in our lab we can design algorithms that allow us to diagnose and charge all types of batteries accurately and give reliable results.” 1 Midtronics did produce the MDX-655P Start-Stop Tester, which allows you to diagnose start-stop batteries. This MDX-500 Series is in fact the first complete start-stop tester aimed at the aftermarket workshop. All technologies in the market – outside the 500 and 600 Series – thus far are not capable of giving reliable results for start-stop battery technologies (e.g., EFB).
