MIDWEST REGION NEWSLETTER Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin JUNE 2019 Hello Midwest! Its that time of year again where spring is ending and summer is beginning. But then again you never know in the Midwest, it’s always a big maybe! It was snowing in Wisconsin for Memorial Day weekend, so you never know. Its also time for our June Newsletter. We have lots of information to share with you. We had a fantastic NAHAM conference. It was wonderful seeing you at NAHAM. If you were unable to attend, we missed you. We had a great keynote speaker, wonderful educational Learning Labs, and breakout sessions. The Florida weather was beautiful, and the hotel was exceptional with great customer service. (Something we all hold near and dear to our hearts). We had a great turnout for Our Midwest meeting. It was wonderful to see all of you. We had robust discussions on multiple subjects. We could have gone on for hours! I’m so excited to share that we have leaders from Kentucky and Ohio who are working to start or restart affiliates in their states. YEAH! Happy Summer! The Indiana Healthcare Access Management Association met for their spring meeting on May 17,

2019 at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana. With attendance of about 50 people, the group enjoyed

listening to the speakers. Pamela Hicks from Reid Health spoke about Inspiring Your People with

information on 212 degrees, leading simply and crossing the line. Chad Bills, Community Health

Network VP of Revenue Cycle, spoke about the implementation of career ladders for Revenue

Cycle staff, including obtaining certifications via NAHAM. He talked about the importance of

recognizing our Patient Access staff with these certifications and giving them ability to

grow/improve themselves professionally and personally. Julie Halbig, Indiana Hospital

Association VP, spoke about new legislative updates in Indiana concerning Medicaid and new

policies. Virginian Gleason from nThrive talked about successful denials management. Justin

Rogers, Revenue Cycle Performance Specialist with Community Health Network, lead the group

on some fun activities toward improving work. These helped the group quickly “think on their

feet” which is always an important feature for working with our patients.

The group was blessed to have seven vendors agree to come to the meeting. These included:

VYNE, AccuReg, Parlance, nThrive, ClaimAid, Finance Systems and AIM Speciality Health. They

provided information on their products as well as offer information to help networks improve

processes, and offered several raffled gifts. Other gifts raffled off during the conference were

given by IHAMA or Reid Health.

The evening before the conference, several people met at “Paint the Town” in Richmond, to learn

how to paint a vase of flowers.  Finger foods, soft drinks and cake were provided, and the event

was sponsored by one of our vendors. The day was a huge success and we look forward to our fall

conference. The board of directors will meet soon to begin discussions on the fall event.
