Jen says:

I’m exploring a different way of telling a story/creating a framework for some themed projects for a new doll here…the EECC is all figments of my imagination, so those “links” won’t work but the real ones to projects for you will. I’m hoping this will be a fun way to connect a bunch of different project ideas floating around in my head.

The doll is a new Our Generation named Mienna – she has the same gorgeous eyes as the beekeeper Cassidy, but has a different face mold and is POSEABLE. At first I didn’t care, because the folding in the vinyl when her limbs are bent all the way looked strange to me, but after working with her for a while and taking some pictures I REALLY like it! One of my main issues with OG dolls is having them stand nicely and not look too stiff. My OG Melina has one of the best faces ever, but the jointing/configuration of arms and legs doesn’t lend itself well to posing for pix, so in general, my OGs are not on the blog very often. Mienna (who might be re-named Hannah?) has wires inside that let the legs stay bent in a more natural feet-apart stance to have more stability for picture taking. When the limbs are covered in fabric, the strange folds in the vinyl aren’t really noticeable.

So this folk dance group came to our school today and they were amazing! Also you would LOVE the costumes. I really really want to take lessons there can I pleeeeease?

Do they have a website?

Yes, here’s the link: Welcome to the EECC! Our mission is to share Eastern European Culture with anyone who has an interest! We have classes in languages, folk music and dance, and

traditional arts and crafts for both children and adults. We are not for profit and always welcome volunteers and donations! See our monthly schedule and newsletter

OK, let’s talk when I get home

Dear Families and Friends of the EECC, October will kick off our stove building month! As you know, we are still hard at work on our museum for traditional EE arts and crafts. It will be a recreation of a traditional peasant cottage, eventually filled with rotating displays of antique and replica furniture, textiles, household goods, etc. and will be open to the public with demonstrators doing traditional crafts on certain days. The building team has done an amazing job so far and finally finished the thatched roof last weekend. Now we need volunteers to help us build a traditional stove that will form the centerpiece of our museum. Please email if you can help! Our dance troupe is focusing on Ukrainian dance until the December performance, classes are Monday, Wednesday, Saturday. Please contact Maria B for more info. Saturday craft classes this month are practicing various types of floral painting in preparation to adorn our stove and cross stitch to decorate blouses/shirts for the dance troupe. Please contact Kasia O for more info.

Hi Gran, Check out what I made!!

No way, all by yourself?

Um, with a lot of help from mom and my teacher :)

It looks great! I might have an apron from my mother to match it...

The blouse pattern is the raglan sleeve blouse from this pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/156891170/folk-costumes-of-europe-pattern-for-16 with the top edge brought up a little to gather to a collar instead of turned under (maybe 1/2”? I didn’t keep track). I realized later there actually is a gathered neck blouse with a bound neck in the collection that works better, but of course you could use the cross-stitch pattern with any blouse pattern from the collection. The embroidery design is from here: https://mala.storinka.org/uploaded/images/Articles/rukodilia/karnavalni_kostumy/mal-3_UKR_kostium_dla_divchynky_01_15.jpg and I re-graphed it on a grid to make for easier embroidering. For this size, use 14 ct (14sts/in) scrim.

You can get the motifs I digitized in pes format here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fg4tcrlh365mmwq/milena%20ukr%20flower%20blouse%20sleeve%20final.zip?dl=0 . They are for personal use only, not to put on things you’re going to sell.
