A) Solid models of the following 6 parts will be generated. These solid models cover basic features of

parts in CATIA V5.

From all six Gear Box components, a student must generate in CATIA V5 minimum three Part Solid

Models and three CAD drawings of the Gear Box components will be extracted from 3D part models.

B) The Assembly Model of the Gear Box will be generated in CATIA V5

Assembly Workbench using the solid models of all Gear Box components;

For validation of the Gear Box Assembly Model, Clash detection will be applied in CATIA V5

Assembly Workbench.

The Exploded View of the Gear Box Assembly Model will be extracted.

Assembly CAD Drawings with BOM will be extracted from the assemblies models.

C) This is a group project. Each group will be made of two students.

Each Project Group must be registered in the Blackboard Student Tools.

1. Each student in a Project Group must submit an individual Design Portfolio, consisting of: 3 Gear

Box CAT part solid models and 3 CAT drawings.

The electronic submission of the Design Portfolio in the blackboard Student

Tools is worth max. 15% of the final mark in Engineering Design 1 subject.

2. Students in a Project Group must combine their individual part solid models and use them to

generate the Gear Box Assembly Model.

Each student in a Project Group must submit an individual Assembly Model and

the Assembly Model Exploded View.

Each student in a Project Group must submit a short Gear Box Project Report,

written as a MS Office-Word file.

The Project Report must contain minimum 5 comments made by the report author on 5 Engineering

Design and Mechanical Design problems, which the student solved in order to correctly complete the

Gear Box Assembly Model

submitted. Each comment will be presented on a separate paragraph of

minimum 2-3 lines and maximum half page of text.

The final component Project Report must be the students Self Evaluation

written under the title Students Reflections.

The Students Reflections must provide the students own evaluation in

regards to particular problem-solving skills gained/developed through the

project completion work, which contributed to students own Engineering

Design experience.

The individual electronic submission in the Blackboard Student Tools of the

Gear Box Assembly models, drawings, complete Gear Box Project Report and complete Design

Portfolio are worth max 35% =20%(Project work)+15% (Design Portfolio work) of the final mark in

MIET2093.

3. Electronic Submission in the Blackboard Students Tools of Design Portfolio work and Gear Box

Project work are required no longer than Friday 18May, 2012.

Project self-evaluation and Students Reflections suggested criteria:

1. I have gained valuable knowledge from this course.

2. This course has helped me improve my problem-solving skills.

3. In this course I have had to change the way I approach problem solving.

4. In this course I have learned some specific problem solving strategies.

5. Solving problems in this course gave me a sense of satisfaction

- Design Portfolio Individual Work Submission is required for each student in the registeredtwo-student work group (explained above).

- 3 CATIA Models of 3 selected Gear Box Parts will be uploaded by each student in theirregistered work group.

- 3 Detailed CATIA Drawings extracted from the Gear Box Part Models submitted will alsobe uploaded by each student in their registered work group.

- Submission of 1 Design Portfolio Folder with compressed files is OK.- Complete Design Portfolio work is worth max. 15% of the final mark.

- The Gear Box individual work Submission is required for each student in the registeredtwo-student work group.

- CATIA Parts Models of all 6 components of the Gear Box (3Gear Box part models madeby the student and the remaining 3 part models made by his/her work groups colleague)

and the fasteners (M6 and M5 Bolts models extracted from the CATIA Catalogue) will be

submitted by each student in their registered work group.

- 1 CATIA Assembly Model and Assembly Drawing of the Gear Box will be submitted byeach student in their registered work group.

- 1 Exploded View and its drawing extracted from CATIA Assembly Model uploaded willalso be submitted by each student in their registered work group.

- Submission of 1 Project Folder with compressed files is OK.- 1 Complete Project Report will be submitted as well by each student in their registered

work group.

- The complete Gear Box Project work (as described above) is worth max. 20% of the Markin MIET2093 subject.
