Well the weather is turning and Spring is here. It is time to get the boats ready to launch! Isn’t it nice to start daydreaming of warmer weather and its actually in the near future! Put those snow blowers away, woot! (of course, I just jinxed us you know). The GIYC winter rendezvous to Savanah, GA, took place on Sunday March 3RD - 7th and it would seem a good time was had by all that were able to attend. We know we had a great time!! Once again thank you to everyone involved it was a pleasure getting to know you all just a bit better! Of course, a big shout out to Lady Tamara for all her time and effort planning the event (side note: the LeCreuset clearance center is at Exit 38, Rte. 77 South Carolina lol). Some pictures of the trip can be found in this Spray. Thanks Emily. We had a fun evening at the club attending the trivia night get together. It was a great event, well organized with tough competition. Congratulations to team Griswold’s and team Under Achievers on their victories. If you see “trivia” on the calendar in the future, please attend, it was so much fun. Kudos to Enter-tainment, Sandy, and the staff. We’ve received the following reciprocal invitations to date from Clubs in the area; • Sun Parlour Boat Club • Detroit Yacht Club • Fairport Harbor Yacht Club

Reminders: GIYC Annual meeting Thursday, April 11th BOD meeting Monday, April 29th Check the calendar for other events at the end of the Spray!

I’ve had requests from members to continue the calendar article I was doing as VC so; Let’s look at some of the ways we can celebrate in April;

• 15 Tax Day (No holiday here! Just a friendly reminder) • 19 Good Friday • 21 Easter • 22 Earth DayFor those interested;April 23 Fun Holiday – Take a Chance Day

Take A Chance Day on April 23 is the perfect excuse for you to play with some odds and venture out into unchartered territories.

The origins of Take A Chance Day are unknown, though we think the creators of the unofficial holiday wanted people to put away their inhibitions and their fear of failure and do something bold and risky.Might FailIn the English language, take a chance is an idiom that refers to doing something that has a high likeli-hood of failure. Usually, when people take a chance they are risking the possibility of failure or misfortune. In mathematics, the word chance has a very specific meaning - it refers to the possibility of the occur-rence of a certain event. The holiday is also known as National Take a Chance Day in the US.How to Celebrate? Take that leap of faith and do something big. Overcome your fears and do something adventurous. What about bungee jumping or learning how to fly an aircraft? Since today is also Lover’s Day, why not take a chance in love and tell that special one how much they mean to you? Make Swedish pop group, ABBA's song Take a Chance on Me, your anthem for this day.Did You Know……that if you were in a group of 23 people, there is a 50% chance that you will meet someone who shares your birthday?

As always, be well,Commodore Gary Dust GIYC

March definitely came in like a lion with plenty of crazy weather, our Winter Rendezvous, fun social events back at the club and much more to look forward to. Hopefully it goes out like a lamb and we get some Spring weather to warm our hearts and hulls.

Since my last report we have been to Jacksonville Fla, Savannah Ga, back to Jacksonville Fla, back to home, had a wonderful GIYC Sunday Brunch watched a couple basketball games, met some new members, played cards, played dice and drank some Guinness (none of that green stuff) listening to Barry. Just don’t know how anyone can say there isn’t enough going on around GIYC. Come on down and join in the fun.

Coming up this week we have a nationally renowned sailing champion and author coming to GIYC for an evening seminar sponsored by the GICSF and hosted at GIYC. Should be a fantastic event.

The Winter Rendezvous was filled with good times and scary stories about one of the most haunted towns in the US. Do you know how many are buried under the town of Savannah? Don’t feel bad. More than anyone knows according to our haunted pub crawl guide Aubrey. He was a wealth of local lore and trivia. The pubs we visited were full of character and class. We all had fun in and around town, tasting Tupelo Honey, toured the local museum, Civil War era fortress and lunching at the alligator infested Crab Shack. Thanks to Commodore Gary and Lady Tami for pulling together a great vacation for us all.

The Commodore’s Ball spring season is starting to heat up. The AYC Commodore’s Ball weekend was quite the event down at the Holiday Inn French Quarter in Perrysburg, Ohio where GIYC partnered with two other clubs and hosted a hospitality suite like no other.

The Annual Meeting is around the corner. Come on down hear about the new things being planned and let your voices be heard.

Vice Commodore Todd Duffett

Spring is officially here ….. the sun is out, the temperatures are creeping upward, the birds are chirping, and boating season is just around the corner. I’m already starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by all of the items on my “boat to-do” list that I wanted to take care of over the winter, but, somehow I got sidetracked!

Although the weather in Savannah wasn’t 100% cooperative, we had a fantastic time during the Winter Rendezvous. Savannah is truly a beautiful city filled with history, great restaurants and bars, ghosts, and best of all, the most delicious pecan sticky buns that I’ve ever tasted! We had a great turnout at the rendezvous and we were lucky to have the fire pit at the hotel for our evening happy hours!

We’ve had a lot of fun during the month of March with the Left/Right/Center tournament and Trivia night …… there are many opportunities to get involved with the Club and to have some fun with your fellow members! I encourage each and every one of you to Get Involved! There are lots of activi-ties and events planned for this year, so, keep your eye on the Spray for upcoming events! T he plans for the 2019 Fourth of July Celebration are really shaping up! Els and I have some great activities planned for the entire family …… children’s activities and games, adult activities and games, and entertainment on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We’re also thrilled to announce that we will have shuttle service from the Grosse Ile Township Hall to GIYC courtesy of members Will and Sherry Evans, publishers of Grosse Ile Grand. The shuttle will run from noon until midnight on Saturday July 6, so, invite your family and friends to come down to the Club for a fun filled day of family activities and a wonderful fireworks display! If you’re interested in helping out (and getting some work hours), please do not hesitate to contact us. Stay tuned to the Spray for more details in the upcoming months!

Sincere Condolences to the following for their loved ones recently passing: • The family of Gerald L. Tecmire, father of Alan Tecmire.

Please keep the following in your thoughts and prayers: • All our members and their children who are serving in the military or in public duty that keeps them away from their families at this time of year. • Anyone else that has need for comfort or support at this time of year as well.

Please be reminded to send me an email with any announcements or information regarding those in need of our prayers and any joyous news you wish to share. (Send to [email protected]; [email protected], or call me at 734.552.3419)

We hope to see you around the Club!
