VOLUME 52 December 2009 I can't believe it is already the end of 2009 when I'm still occasionally trying to write 1999 or some other last century date when I write a check! And now there may be snow in El Paso! This year has flown by. And next year is shaping up to be very interesting for SWA. To everyone who has asked about my knee replacement surgery, it has been postponed to a date to be determined. In my dream last night I was skipping (something I haven't done for years) so I think things will be great with all the positive thinking and good wishes going on. When you start your 2010 calendar, don't forget two things: CD's are due for the International Show on January 22! If you haven't started your masterpiece yet, get busy now! And the Fort Worth Central Library has asked us to change the date of our reception to Sunday, April 25, from 2:00 to 4:00. I can't believe it is already the end of 2009 when I'm still occasionally tryingto write 1999 or some other last century date when I write a check! And nowthere may be snow in El Paso! This year has flown by. And next year isshaping up to be very interesting for SWA.

Diane received her formal education at Notre Dame College for women. She has been a watercolor artist for 35 years and a member of SWA since it was established in 1986. She has been SWA president twice and is a signature member. Diane still considers painting a learning experience and a wonderful adventure. She enjoys the challenges of composition and color. Her paintings represent watercolor painting in its purist form: transparent, with large areas of spontaneous free flowing washes that display the various characteristics of the medium and areas of judiciously preserved white paper. Diane owns and operates “Frames n’ Things” at 108 Main St in Azle. This is a combination frame shop and gallery that she has maintained for 25 years. Everyone should make the short easy drive out there to check it out and have lunch at Bennie’s Italian Restaurant nearby. Diane will be our demonstrator in January.

The attendees of our fall "plein-air" session enjoyed a pleasant afternoon. The barbeque and beer

at Risky's was a fitting conclusion for an afternoon of painting. The longhorn cattle drive was in

progress down Exchange St. when I arrived and at about 4:00 here they came again for the

afternoon trip. This rerun of photos is a reminder of some of the features the complex has to offer.

The excursion train to Grapevine made an interesting diversion at about 3:00. This is an ideal

setting for our activity and the plan will be to visit here again in the not too distant future.
