General

Intercom solutions by CommendThe Commend Intercom System is an open platform and in all respects provides full compatibility forthird-party components. This enables us to create perfectly tailored turnkey solutions in cooperationwith strong partners such as Milestone Systems. Commend provides an interface to Milestone XProtect, which enables the communication from the In-tercom system to Milestone platform by sending TCP strings. The basic idea behind the TCP interfaceis to provide all kinds of Intercom features to trigger generic events in the Milestone system.

Video management by MilestoneMilestone Systems is the world’s leading provider of open platform IP video management software(VMS) and its XProtect VMS is used by more than 100,000 customers worldwide. XProtect is easy touse, yet powerful software that is designed with open architecture. This means that all XProtect pro-ducts are compatible with more IP cameras, encoders and digital video recorders than any other VMSmanufacturer, giving you the freedom to mix and match.Generic events allow you to trigger actions in the XProtect event server by sending simple commandsvia the IP network. The Milestone XProtect Server is able to analyse received TCP data packets, andautomatically trigger predefined alarms, e.g. when a call is triggered in the Intercom System.

System overview

The interface and all components are fully IP based. You only have to connect the Commend Intercomsystem and the Milestone XProtect server to your network as you can see in the diagram below. The Milestone system consists of minimum two software products, the XProtect server and a Client. These devices and the Commend Intercom Server have to be linked via a conventional LAN networkconnection.

XProtect ServerThe XProtect Server is an advanced IP video management software (VMS) designed for medium andlarge multi-site installations. It is able to analyse received TCP data packets from the Commend Inter-com Server.

XProtect Client (Smart Client or similar)The XProtect Smart Client has an adaptable user interface that can be optimized for individual opera-tors’ tasks and adjusted according to specific skills and authority levels. Advanced investigation toolscombined with an easy-to-navigate video timeline enable fast and accurate examination of incidents.

Key features Alarm Manager: Single-point alarm function provides a clear and consolidated overview of secu-

rity and system-related alarms and gives instant access to cameras for immediate detection ofincidents.

Map function: The multi-layered map function provides instant situational awareness and allowsusers to interactively access and control cameras, devices and other integrated systems.

Overlay buttons: Intuitively control cameras, camera-integrated devices and other connected sys-tems directly from the camera view, streamlining workflows and improving operator efficiency.

Intercom System The Intercom System consists of an Intercom Server or a combination of more Intercom Servers, Inter-com stations and typically a control desk. In most cases the control desk or an Intercom station is usedin combination with the Milestone Smart Client as shown in the diagram on page 3. If a call is triggeredby one of the Intercom stations, the video stream from the appropriate IP camera is shown on the ap-propriate monitor, which is logically assigned to a control desk station. Commend’s entire cameraequipped call stations and add-on camera modules integrate smoothly with the Milestone videomanagement software (VMS).

System requirements

2. Commend Intercom Server

2.1 Installation

Start the Commend Intercom Server configuration tool CCT800 min. 3.1 and establish a connection tothe Intercom Server.

Intercom Server Default IP address: 10.10.1.1Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

For detailed information please follow the instructions in the Commend product manual PM-GE 800.

2.2 Network configuration

Commend Intercom Server SetupStart the Commend Intercom Server configuration tool CCT800 and establish a connection to the Inter-com Server. Choose the interface for the TCP/IP connection to the XProtect server. It is possible to use the interface on the GEP card or the interface on an interface card G3/G8/SIS-IF. To connect the Intercom System to the network it is necessary to define appropriate IP addresses forthe GEP card and NET card. If you want to use an interface card for the connection to the XProtect ser-ver it is also necessary to define an IP address for the IF card.

Project > IP-Settings > Common tab Define IP addresses and Subnet masks for the GEP card, NET card and IF card as shown in the

screenshot blow.

Intercom Server > Send The settings become active when the configuration is sent to the Intercom Server.

2.3 Activate Commend Software licenseIt is required to assign the license L-IF-MILEST to the respective interface on the GEP card or on therespective interface card SIS/G3/G8-IF. If the server runs a version less than or equal to PRO800 2.x,also the feature license Lx-PRO3U is required. The licensing procedure is described in the manual PM-GE 800.

Interfaces > Data interfaces tab TCP/IP A list of the available TCP/IP interfaces is shown. Choose the interface on the GEP card or on the IF card for the connection to the XProtect server. To configure the selected interface, follow the next steps:

Call number: It is recommended to use the default call number of the selected interface. Description: Use this text box for an interface description as shown in the screenshot below. Type of connection: Select “Milestone XProtect”. Local Port: The Milestone Interface does not need a local port setting. Remote IP Address: Set the IP address of the Milestone XProtect server. Remote Port: Configure the port number that is set in the XProtect server: default 17800. Idle interval: Connection state is checked within this time interval (1 minute recommended). Idle response time: Communication timeout (2 seconds recommended). Lenght ICX - messages: Configure the length of the ICX - messages to Always long.

Intercom Server > Send The settings become active when the configuration is sent to the Intercom Server.

For the data connection to the Milestone server it is recommended to define a control desk and assignan ICX inferface.

Project > Subscriber > Control Desks tab Buzzer Right click on a D-level subscriber > Add control desk function

6. Smart Client

6.1 General

The XProtect Smart Client provides access to surveillance systems. The XProtect Smart Client must beinstalled locally on the computer. In the XProtect Smart Client window, it is possible to view live videoon the Live tab of the XProtect Smart Client, and recorded video on the Playback tab. When the Livetab is selected, the XProtect Smart Client connects to the surveillance system server, and displays livevideo from cameras in the selected view.If the computer has more than one physical display attached, it is possible to send individual views toseparate windows and watch more than one view at a time.

6.2 Alarm Manager

The Alarm Manager tab is either displayed or hidden depending on the settings defined by your sur-veillance system setup.

The Alarm listThe Alarm list displays incoming alarms by default, with the most recent alarms at the top of the list.Alarms or events that have video associated with them are listed with an icon. To preview a still imagefrom the time of the alarm or event, place the mouse over the icon. To view recorded video from thecamera associated with the alarm or event, select the alarm or event in the list to display it in the Alarmpreview.

Alarms on mapsIf your alarm handling view contains one or more map positions, you can view alarms on the maps too.Maps display alarms based on the geographical location of the camera, server or other devicetriggering the alarms, so you can instantly see where the alarm originates from. You can right-click andacknowledge, disable, or suppress the alarm directly from the map. Camera elements display video in thumbnail format when you move your mouse over it. When usedtogether with alarms, the graphical elements on maps display white circles around them if alarmsoccur.
