NEW YORK, October 6, 2013 — While Americans are bombarded dailywith news of the federal shutdown, A-Lister Miley Cyrus took to theSaturday Night Live stage in New York City this Saturday. Cyrus dishedup comic relief, mocking Congresswoman Michelle Bachman with a SNLversion of House Speaker John Boehner in a racy yet humorous skit.

Separately, what wasn’t so humorous were the comments that Boehnerdirected at the White House on Friday in response to a senior WhiteHouse Official’s statement “We are winning…It doesn’t really matter tous” how long the shutdown lasts “because what matters is the end result.”

President Obama and the Senate Democrats remain unwilling to speak orwork with Republicans to open the federal government, though thepresident briefly cooperated with Republicans to provide back-pay tofederal workers. Obama is still rejecting Republican efforts to fund cancertreatments for children or allow World War II veterans access to theirWashington memorial, according to Time.com .

Friday, Boehner stood behind a podium with a large sign reading“#LetsTalk” on it, and yet again tried to get Obama and Senate Democratsto work on a solution to fund the federal government. He said, ”It’s not adamn game … Americans want their government funded and so do I!”

On Sunday, Boehner reiterated that reopening the government is not areality unless the president and Senate Democrats are willing to budge innegotiations. Boehner cited the Republicans’ willingness to work with theadministration since last year, referencing a tax increase that Republicansin the House conceded to the president in last year’s fiscal cliffnegotiations.

Even with Miley’s humorous re-mix of her hit “We Can’t Stop,” the laughteris only temporary, as America goes into her second week of the federalgovernment shutdown. Although recent polls don’t know for sure: somecritics say that most Americans aren’t feeling the effects of the shutdownand politicians should consider eliminating all non-essential jobsaltogether to save money and balance the federal budget, while otherssay it’s impact is severe on veterans and citizens looking to sign up for theAffordable Care Act but cannot due to glitches in the systems roll-out. Onething we know for sure is that Miley Cyrus is not expected to run forpresident in 2016 nor will she be mediating negotiations to re-open thegovernment.
