7.1 Parvus Corporation Parvus serves a large, diverse group of military and commercial prime and subcontractors
developing intelligent, rugged and ruggedized computing and communications electronics for harsh
field environments. The company has strong customer relationships with numerous US
government primes, military branches, aeronautics, transportation, energy and telecommunications
giants. Key customers include L-3 Communications, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing
Company, BAE Systems, General Dynamics, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins, among others.
On 1st October 2013 it was announced that Curtiss-Wright Corporation had purchased Parvus
Corporation for $38 million.
Visiongain spoke to Mike Southworth, Vice President of Marketing at Parvus Corporation on 12th
July 2013.
7.1.1 What Is Parvus’s Background in Military Land Vehicle Electronics? Visiongain: Can you tell me a bit about your company?
Southworth: Since 1983, Parvus Corporation has been a strategic systems engineering and
development partner for aerospace, defence, transportation, and industrial Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs). Parvus specializes in the rapid design and manufacturing of rugged
embedded computing and communication subsystems for Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP)-
constrained military, aerospace, and homeland defence applications. Parvus’ Commercial-Off-The-
Shelf (COTS) tactical mission processors, network routers, Ethernet switches and embedded
board-level products provide highly reliable command, control, computing and communication (C4)
capabilities for situational awareness and mobile data processing in airborne, ground vehicle, and
shipboard deployments.

Southworth: Parvus supplies rugged mission computers and network router/switch subsystems to
prime defense contractors who then install these onto military vehicles as part of situational

8.2.1 BAE Systems Benefits from Bradley Upgrades BAE Systems is the second largest global aerospace, defence and security contractor, offering
services for air, land and naval forces, as well as electronic and information technology. The
company employs over 100,000 people worldwide and has seven main home markets- USA; UK,
Sweden, India, South Africa; Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
BAE is the second largest company in the global armoured military vehicle electronics market, with
a calculated market share of 12.2%, or $388.9m. As can be seen from Table 8.3, much of BAE’s
revenue in the vetronics market comes from US vehicle procurement, especially thanks to its
development of IFVs such as the M2/M3 Bradley and MRAPs such as the RG-33, which was
designed by BAE Land Systems in South Africa. This increasing US-centrism at BAE Systems
came in reaction to declining defence budgets in its more established European businesses, and
the company has seen some success in ousting dominant US suppliers from lucrative government
contracts. However, thanks to the effects of sequestration on US defence spending, diversifying
geographically has perhaps proven less effective than the focus on civilian businesses seen in rival
European defence giant EADS.
