MILKING ROUTINE – BOS NORTH
Wear rubber gloves at all times
Milker 1 starts with cows 1 thru 8, milker 2 with cows 9 thru 16 & milker 3 with cows 17 thru 24
Spray all 4 teats with predip using the spray wandStrip all teatsWipe cows – use one clean cloth towel per cow – wipe
twice with some force, especially the teat end – rewipe dirty cows until clean
Attach machines
Machines are removed by all milkers after the milking time displays 10 min
Check milkflow in the claw – machines may be removed before 10 min when there is none – cows with heavy milkflow continue milking beyond 10 min
Shut off the vacuum before removing the machine
After machine removal cows are dipped with postdip using the dip cups – ensure that teats are uniformly coated
Allow cows to enter parlor by themselves – assist cows to move gently & quietly – when needed persuade cows by hitting them lightly with a towel – no poking with rods
After 8 cows, milker 1 preps & hangs cows 25 thru 32
A cow identified with mastitis or abnormal milk is marked with pink chalk & removed to the hospital – rear quarters are marked on the udder, front quarters are marked on the pasterns
After 8 cows, milker 3 preps & hangs cows 33 thru 40
After 8 cows, milker 2 starts removing machines on the opposite side (see below)
Remain aware of the machine monitoring system (voice & display) & check machine ASAP – consult chart for remedies
Follow the order from the 1st to 8th cow at all timesEach single milker remains responsible for their section/s
