State University Dear CJ Bearkats –
I trust that your semester has been successful thus far! I know several of you have joined us for our Real Talk w/CJ speakers this semester! I hope you have found them helpful and informative as you are thinking about potential careers in the field.
I want you to be aware of some great upcoming events in our college. First is the proposal deadline for the Spring 2011 College of Criminal Justice Undergraduate Research Conference. The deadline is December 1st for proposal submission. The proposal is 300 to 500 words describing your paper or poster. Guidelines are posted on our website under the Camps and Conferences link. Choose one of your favorite faculty and ask them to help you! They are excited and waiting to do so. This experience will not only allow you a chance to win $500, but provide a wonderful line for your resume!
An undergraduate research scholarship is another new opportunity for you! We are
currently working on the guidelines for these scholarships and will be ready to offer a few during the Spring 2011 semester. These scholarships will offer students money for the semester to work with one of our great (any many famous) faculty members on a
research project. These scholarships are for those of you who are interested in attending graduate or law school once you are done with your undergraduate degree. We would love to help you become more competitive for graduate school admission by learning about how we extend the knowledge in our field.
Please keep your eyeballs and brains open for this opportunity!
I am so excited about all of these new events – I know, I’m a nerd… I’ve accepted that. If you have any questions, comments, or snide remarks – please come and talk with me!
Your Assistant Dean of
Undergraduate Programs,
Dr. Holly A. Miller
