Tuck Shop
Well done to Moscow
class for organising the
tuck shop last week.
Amount raised was:
£101.46.
Thank you for all of your
support.
Firstly, I would like to announce the winners of the classroom door compeon. The teach-
ers and children have worked really hard to get the doors looking great, reflecng the staff
and children in the class, and ensuring that the children know a li<le bit more about some of
the places and cies in the UK and where we live. EYFS winner: Edinburgh Class KS1 winner:
No@ngham Class LKS2 Class: Sheffield Class UKS2 winner: Newcastle Class. There are photos
of the doors outside my office for anyone interested.
This week, the children have been busy working on their new topics in class. As you will
know if you came to the ‘Welcome Meengs’, Millfields has launched a brand new school
curriculum for the 2014-15 academic year, in line with the statutory changes required by the
Department for Educaon. Across subjects such as History, Geography, Art and Compung,
children will be able to get their teeth into smulang new topics such as the Mysterious
Mayans, Excavang Egypt, Invasion and Amazonian Adventure. The original, intensively-
researched curriculum has been formulated by subject leaders at Millfields, drawing on years
of teaching experience and informed knowledge. In order to share the new curriculum with
the whole school community, we are holding a ‘Curriculum Evening’ on Tuesday 14th Octo-
ber. The subject leaders will be sharing lesson plans, praccal acvies and informaon –at
4pm-5pm and 6pm-7pm. There will also be an opportunity on the evening to meet some of
the Governors who link with specific curriculum areas. The staff have also been looking at
and planning the next term’s topics already, so we welcome any feedback on what you or
your child has to say about the curriculum.
This year’s Junior Road Safety Officers, Aamina Bala in Year 4 , and Victor Gomes in Year 5,
a<ended their first training session this week. They have already fed back to me about what
their role entails and what their responsibilies are for the coming year. They will be hosng
assemblies for all the different year groups in the coming weeks. Also on road safety, you
may have noced that there is a more regular traffic enforcement patrol outside the school
gates. I met with Elaine Becke<, the Principal Road Safety Officer at Hackney Council to ex-
press our concerns about the dangerous crossing on Rushmore Road, and we I’ll be looking
to introduce some more traffic enforcement measures very soon. Please do not park on any
of the double yellow or zig-zag lines outside the school –it is very dangerous. Thank you for
your cooperaon.
As you will hopefully know, it is Maths week from Monday 29th September unl Friday 3rd
October. This year, our theme is puzzles and solving puzzles. There are lots of workshops for
each class, and special lessons planned next week, and a home learning challenge with prizes
–look out for more details on Monday.
Also, thank you to all the staff and parents who made cakes for today’s Macmillan Coffee
Morning –it has been a great success. We will let you know how much we raised next week.
Finally, have a good weekend. Best Wishes, Jane

Application packs are now available in the front office for next years nursery class. The closing date for applications is Friday 3rd April 2015Friday 3rd April 2015Friday 3rd April 2015Friday 3rd April 2015. In order to make an application you will need to pro-vide a number of documents including your child’s red book. We must see originals of all these docu-ments at the time of application or your application will be rejected. Thank you.
We kindly request that no food is brought in to celebrate birthdays or other occasions unless specifically requested. While we appreciate birthdays are important celebrations, particularly for very young children, we have many children in our school with food allergies, intolerances and die-tary requirements. Food served by the school has been thoroughly checked to ensure it meets the die-tary needs of all children; a process you will agree is not easy if food is brought in from outside.
Clothes
donations
It’s that time of
year when the little
ones may have ac-
cidents and our
spare clothes cup-
board is looking a
bit bare. Please
bring any donations
of clean, good
quality clothing to
the main office. We
are especially in
need of boys
trousers for
3-5 year
olds.
Many thanks
E safety and Cyber bullying Very sadly there have been a few re-ported incidents of cyberbullying occur-ring outside of school. Many of these are happening whilst us-ing the website moviestarplanet.com. Children can not access this website at school and it is recommended that par-ents closely monitor their child’s use of the website. We have reported the inci-dents we know of to CEOP via www.thinkuknow.com and encourage you to do the same if you are witness to any incidents. There is also lots of very valuable infor-mation about how to keep your child safe whilst using the internet available from www.thinkuknow.com . Thanks.
