Millikin Women’s Mother’s Day Concert Sunday, May 7, 2:00 pm

Central Christian Church

650 W. William St.

Free and open to the public

The 65-voice choir, under the direction of conductor Beth Holmes, will be honoring mothers and female

mentors who have made an impact in the lives of current choir members. Mothers and mentors identified by

collegiate singers will join in singing the final piece of the concert, "The Blessing," made famous by Celtic

Woman.

The choir has just completed their spring weekend tour, and is known for embracing diverse repertoire with a

high level of choral excellence, along with a commitment to infuse each piece with emotive content. This

year’s concert season includes both sacred and secular works spanning centuries and genres. Two contrasting

Psalm texts exhibit this flexibility, one a Classical Michael Haydn setting written in 1780 for treble boys choir

in Saltzburg, England and the second recently commissioned by Professor Holmes and a consortium of

collegiate women's choral conductors, by contemporary Hungarian composer, Levente Gyöngyösi. One

portion of the concert develops the theme “Journey” and another will feature folk music from Africa, Pakistan,

Bulgaria, and Turkey.

Chamber Ensemble Concert Thursday, May 11, 7:30 pm

The chamber ensemble will feature the Eidolan Woodwind Quintet and the Student Brass Quintet. The

woodwind quintet will be performing works by Albeniz, Damase, Ligeti, and Gershwin. The brass quintet will

perform music by Holborne, Praetorius, and Brahms. These student ensembles are coached by Prof. Tina

Nicholson and Prof. Randall Reyman.

Lab School. Teams of students from Millikin's Computer Art

and Design course, led by Jessa Wilcoxen, educator of digital

media, presented their designs at Dennis Lab School on

November 22. The selected design was created by the team of

Aryana Johnson, a junior studio art major from Maywood, IL,

and Francisco Gama, a junior graphic design major from
