MIND MAPS

1. Resource

Is anything that is found in nature ,

and has some value for humans

is technologically accessible

is economically feasible &

is culturally acceptable

2. Transformation of

resource can be done

using

Technology

Human beings

3. Types of resources-

Natural

Human-made

Human Resource

4. Natural resource

Are the resources drawn from nature &

Are used without much modifications

They are of 2 types-Renewable (those

resources which can be renewed quickly eg

soil, forest etc) and Non-renewable (those

which are once depleted takes millions of

year to form eg coal ,petroleum and natural

gas)

5. Human –made resources

They are the resources created by

human beings using technology.

They include technical expertise,

Government structures, Political &

economic institutions, social &

cultural set –up.

6. Human Resource-

It is the most important resource as

it has the required skill and Knowledge

to utilise the resources.

7 Human Resource Development means

Improving the quality of people

so that they create more resources

8. Sources of Human Capital Formation

Education

Good health care facilities

On the Job training

9. Problems due to over-utilisation of Resources

Depletion of resources-Petroleum is getting less and

less

Concentration of Resources-the society has been

divided into rich and poor, increasing the income

inequality

Global Ecological Crisis-like global warming,

depletion of Ozone layer, Pollution, Land Degradation

is there.

10. Resource Planning

is a technique or skill

of using the resources judiciously

11. Need for resource planning

Resources are limited

Resources are unevenly distributed-

Rajasthan has solar and wind energy

but has shortage of water.

Overutilization of Resources may lead

to many problems.

Under-utilization of resources may lead

to under developed economies.

It will lead to the development of more

resources

It will make country self-dependent.

It is our moral duty to pass some

resources to our future generations.

12. Importance of Role of Technology in Resource

Development

British Colonies like India, Africa were rich in natural

resources but still the Britishers ruled them as they had

TECHNOLOGY which we lacked.

13. Sustainable Development means

Development should take place without damaging the

environment &

Development in the present should not compromise

the needs of the future generations.

QUESTION AND ANSWERS

Q1. What are resources? Give two examples.

Ans. Anything available in our environment which can be used to satisfy our needs or have

some value, provided it is technologically accessible, economically feasible and

culturally acceptable can be termed as Resource. For eg minerals, fossil fuels etc.

Q2. Define human resource.

Ans. Human resource constitute human beings .People can make the best use of nature to

create more resources when they have the knowledge, skill and technology to do so.

Q3. “People are human resource”. Justify.

Ans. People are human resources as education and health help in making people a valuable

resource. By improving the quality of people’s skill, they are able to create more

resources.

Q4. Define resource conservation.

Ans. It is using resources carefully and giving them time to get renewed is called resource

conservation.

Q5. What is resource planning?

Ans. Resource planning is a technique or skill of proper or judicious use of resources.

Q6. Name a state of India which is well endowed with solar and wind energy.

Ans. Rajasthan

Q7. Define sustainable development.

Ans. Sustainable development is a socio–ecological process characterized by the fulfilment

of human needs while maintaining the quality of the natural environment.

Q8. Mention the policy areas of sustainable development.

Ans. The policy areas of sustainable development are: economic, environmental and social.

Q9. Mention the impact of overutilization of resources on the ecosystem.

Ans. Overutilization of resources has led to many problems such as:

1. Depletion of resources: Overutilization of resources has led to a situation where

most of the countries are facing energy crisis.

2. Concentration of resources: This has divided the society into ‘haves’ and ‘have

nots’ and rich and the poor.

3. Global ecological crisis: Overutilization of resources has led to the global

ecological crisis such as global warming, depletion of the ozone layer, pollution

and land degradation.

Q10. Mention any two states which are rich in minerals.

Ans. Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh

B. Distinguish between :

1.

Renewable resources Non-renewable resources

a. These are the natural resources which can be used again and again or can be reproduced by physical, mechanical and chemical processes.

a. These are the natural resources that cannot be replaced at all or within a reasonable time.

b. These are eco-friendly or do not cause pollution.

b. These resources cause pollution.

c. These are comparatively cheaper. c. These are costly.

d. For eg. Solar energy, wind, water etc. d. For eg. Fossil fuels, minerals etc.

2.

Natural resources Human resources

a. Resources that are drawn from nature and used without much modification

a. Human beings constitute human resources as they can make the best use of nature with their knowledge, skill and technology.

b. Primary activities are associated with natural resources.

b. Secondary and tertiary activities are associated with human resources.

E. Define the following terms:

1. Sustainable development: It is a socio-ecological process characterized by the fulfilment

of human needs while maintaining the quality of the natural environment.

2. Resource planning: It is a technique or skill of proper or judicious use of resources.

3. Energy resources: Resources which provide energy are known as energy resources. For

eg. Wood, coal, mineral oil, natural gas, wind, water etc.

4. Human resource: Human resources include the trained and skilled people who contribute

for the development of a nation.
