Mindfulness for Mindfulness for Stress Stress The eight-week Mindfulness course is for anyone who is experiencing difficulties living with the demands of life and wants to find a way to deal with them differently. Mindfulness is developed by purposefully paying attention in a non- judgmental way to your experience of your body, your mind and the world around you. Mindfulness is about being awake and aware and living in the present, rather than dwelling in the past or anticipating the future. Staying in touch with the present in this way, from one moment to the next, may lead you to experience yourself differently, perhaps feeling less stuck, or recognising more strength, balance and confidence in yourself. Most people completing the programme report lasting physical and psychological benefits including: Greater self-confidence and more acceptance of life as it is. An increased ability to cope effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations. An increased ability to relax and experience calm. More energy, enthusiasm and appreciation for life. What does the course involve? Either one or two experienced teachers will teach you in a group of up to 15. For groups less than 7 people, one teacher runs the course. The course consists of 8 evening sessions of 2½ hrs and one day or half-day of practice. There will also be daily home practice of 30 – 40 minutes. You will be provided with CDs to help you with your home practice. Getting the most out of the course will require some work on your part. It requires a strong commitment to work on yourself through a gentle but rigorous daily discipline of meditation and movement practice. Making the commitment to devote the time needed for this personal exploration can feel difficult, but most people consider it worthwhile. Once your booking form has been received, one of us will contact you to discuss any outstanding questions you have and to talk a bit more about the course.

The eight-week Mindfulness course is for anyone who is experiencing difficulties living with the demands of life and wants to find a way to deal with them differently.

Mindfulness is developed by purposefully paying attention in a non-judgmental way to your experience of your body, your mind and the world around you.

Most people completing the programme report lasting physical and psychological benefits including:

• Greater self-confidence and more acceptance of life as it is.

• An increased ability to cope effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.

• An increased ability to relax and experience calm.

• More energy, enthusiasm and appreciation for life.

Support during the course

Should you experience any difficulties in connection with the course in between the sessions, your teachers will be available via email during the week and you can also make contact with them on the phone. It is important to use this as a resource rather than get stuck in any difficulty. The course is not a form of therapy rather it is a supportive learning process. If you feel that some individual therapy would be helpful to you, the course leaders can suggest useful resources you might use to explore options for therapy independently

Your teachers Elaine Weatherley-Jones founded Mindfulness in Sheffield in 2011. She is a Chartered Psychologist and has been practicing mindfulness and other meditation practices since 2000. She qualified as a teacher of Mindfulness with Breathworks and has completed the Foundation module of the MSc in Mindfulness Based Approaches with Bangor University. The UK Network for Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training Organisations registers teachers who are approved by them to delivery Mindfulness-Based Interventions. Elaine is on their register. She has done further training in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy with the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre and engages in regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD). She has led and assisted in teaching Mindfulness 8-week courses in Sheffield, Manchester and Bangor. Sara Dennis is a qualified Breathworks Mindfulness teacher, and HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist based in Sheffield. She developed an interest in mindfulness in relation to working with people with long-term physical health problems and associated psychological distress. She has been practicing mindfulness in daily life for over four years. She has co-lead and run courses in Mindfulness for Stress and Mindfulness for Health in Sheffield and Chesterfield. For both of us, it continues to be both a privilege and a pleasure to support people in finding out for themselves the new perspectives, on life, stress and health which mindfulness practice can bring.

Confidentiality and Record keeping

Discussions between the teachers and course participants will normally be held in complete confidence. The exception to this is if the teachers are sufficiently concerned about a matter with serious criminal, ethical or safety implications told to them by a course participant in which case they reserves the right to breach confidentiality by consulting with another responsible person. Every effort would be made to discuss this with the participant in the first instance.

The Mindfulness teachers receive regular supervision for their work and therefore may discuss matters arising from the course in their own supervision. All reasonable care will be taken to ensure anonymity.

How much does it cost?

The 8-week course costs £230, which includes course booklet and audio CDs to lead you through practices.
