Meet Abdulla Al-Naimi ”I’m an ICT Project Manager for Rasad, part of Qatar Science and Technology Park. Rasad is an ICT platform that uses sensors to collect data and transmits it over wireless networks. It’s world’s first technology developed right here in Qatar.

I have a Bachelor of Communication and Electronics Engineering from the University of Leeds in the UK. I have found a background in IT very useful in my job and research and management skills are essential.

What does a Network Engineer do?The primary role of a Network Engineer is to ensure smooth running of an organization’s communication networks. A Network Engineer is involved in the design and maintenance of both the hardware and software necessary for a computer network. Meet Reem Ali Al Naimi “I’m a Network Engineer for Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company. I am currently working on a project that’s called ‘Right Fax’. This project will mean the end of fax devices. You’ll be able to send and receive faxes by email – say goodbye to fax machines!

You need to have a basic knowledge of how servers work and ways to troubleshoot the servers should anything happen. The job is fun because it’s not a desk job. You are able to work with your colleges as a team and get a chance to be a project leader. Besides working in the office at my desk I visit the data center, meet vendors to talk about new solutions, attend training courses and IT events. It is not a stressful job, once the network is stable you can have your own lab and experiment with new devices.

I have a Computer Engineering degree from Qatar University. Even when I was kid, I used to play with wire connections and try to recognize how they are connected with each other. I started to love it more when I went into the real work environment; it makes you feel that you are the most important person in IT.”
