PRODUCTS AND SERVICES:Commercial Vehicles:

In 2004, Tata Motors acquired Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company of South Korea. The reasons behind the acquisition were:

The Tata Prima heavy truckCompany's global plans to reduce domestic exposure. The domestic commercial vehicle market is highly cyclical in nature and prone to fluctuations in the domestic economy. Tata Motors has a high domestic exposure of ~94% in the MHCV segment and ~84% in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment. Since the domestic commercial vehicle sales of the company are at the mercy of the structural economic factors, it is increasingly looking at the international markets. The company plans to diversify into various markets across the world in both MHCV as well as LCV segments. To expand the product portfolio Tata Motors recently introduced the 25MT GVW Tata Novus from Daewoos (South Korea) (TDCV) platform. Tata plans to leverage on the strong presence of TDCV in the heavy-tonnage range and introduce products in India at an appropriate time. This was mainly to cater to the international market and also to cater to the domestic market where a major improvement in the Road infrastructure was done through theNational Highway Development Project.Tata Daewoo is the second-largest heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer in South Korea. Tata Motors has jointly worked with Tata Daewoo to develop trucks such as Novus and World Truck and buses including GloBus and StarBus. In 2012, Tata will start developing a new line to manufacture competitive and fuel efficient commercial vehicles to face the competition posed by the entry of international brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Navistar into the Indian market.[21]Tata HispanoTata Hispano Motors Carrocera, S.A. is a bus and coach cabin manufacturer based in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain and a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors. Tata Motors first acquired a 21% stake inHispano CarroceraSA in 2005,[7]and acquired the remaining 79% for an undisclosed sum in 2009, making it a fully owned subsidiary, subsequently renamed Tata Hispano.Jaguar Land Rover

Tata has a growing consumer base inItaly, Spain and South Africa.Tata Motors has more than 250 dealerships in more than 195 cities across 27statesand 4Union Territoriesof India. It has the 3rd largest Sales and Service Network afterMaruti SuzukiandHyundai.SERVICESVEHICLE LEASINGVehicle Leasing offers advantages to both buyers and sellers. For the buyer, lease payments will usually be lower than payments on a car loan would be, and qualification is often easier. Some consumers may prefer leasing as it allows them to simply return a car and select a new model when the lease expires, allowing a consumer to drive a new vehicle every few years without the responsibility of selling the old vehicle. A lessee does not have to worry about the future value of the vehicle, while a vehicle owner does. For a business lessor there are tax advantages to be considered. For the seller, leasing generates income from a vehicle the seller still owns and will be able to lease again or sell throughvehicle remarketingonce the original (or primary) lease has expired. As consumers will typically use a leased vehicle for a shorter period of time than one they buy outright, leasing may generate repeat customers more quickly, which may fit into various aspects of a dealer's business model.Lease agreementLease agreements typically stipulate an early termination fee and limit the number of miles a lessee can drive (for passenger cars, a common number is 10,000 miles per annum though the amount can be stipulated by the customer and can be 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year). If the mileage allowance is exceeded, fees may apply. Dealers will typically allow a lessee to negotiate a higher mileage allowance, for a higher lease payment. Lease agreements usually specify how much wear on the vehicle is allowable, and the lessee may face a fee if that amount of wear has been exceeded. A lease with maintenance (commonly known in the UK as Contract Hire) can include all vehicle running costs excluding fuel and insurance. The actual lease payments are calculated in a very similar way to loan payments, but instead of an APR, the company uses something called themoney factor. At the end of a lease's term, the lessee must either return the vehicle to or buy it from the owner. The end of lease price is usually agreed upon when the lease is signed.

BMC SOFTWARES:The highly respected Tata Motors Ltd. has a strong tradition of entrepreneurship. The companys business strategy calls for reaching beyond the borders of India to enter new marketsfor its Nano, the innovative small car for the urban middle class. One of the major drivers of success at Tata Motors Ltd. (TML) is its ability to fully exploit information technology to drive business goals. The company was an early adopter of CAD and CAMsystems to speed the design of the Nano. The company also uses Siebel Systems to manage itsvast customer relationship network and SAPfor all critical business services, such as logistics, supplier relations management, customer relationship management, human resources (HR),and finance.According to Probir Mitra, Chief Information Officer at TML, IT is an integral part of every business process from design to delivery and the power of IT has been extensively leveraged for theNano project. The design processes used more digital content than ever before. State-of-the-artCAD and CAM services integrated design across multiple disciplines, making it possible for ourdesigners to harness and benefit from their inherent ability to innovate. IT helped the companyshrink the design cycle time.He adds that BSM tools from BMC Software played a key role in tracking and controlling allcomponents of IT services and automating the management of the IT infrastructure which isvital to the design and planning for manufacture of the Nano as well as running day-to-daybusiness processes.EXCELLENCE IN OUTSOURCING:Following its strategy of outsourcing noncore activities, TML has outsourced its IT applicationsto Tata Technologies Ltd. and its IT infrastructure to IBM.The outsourcing decision has provento be a wise one. TML reaped significant benefits through the outsourcing initiatives. TML wasrecognized in 2007 and conferred the SAP Ace award for its SRM & Warehouse Managementimplementations. It also received the Uptime Championship Award at the CIO 100 event inthe same year.Initially, the outsourcing approach posed several challenges. Technology silos were performingadequately. However, a flexible service-oriented management framework was required to linkthe silos and provide a comprehensive a view of the IT landscape underlying a given businessprocess. To make this framework a reality, TML decided to adopt IT service management conceptsoutlined in the ISO 20000:05 international standards, as well as best practices outlined in the ITInfrastructure Library (ITIL) Version 3. In addition, the company decided to establish a serviceoriented management architecture that treated IT services as assets and managed them on alifecycle basis.GeographyIndiaIndustryAutomotiveBusiness NeedTata Motors Ltd. wanted to ensure highperformance and availability of businesscritical systems that enable the companyto design and manufacture high-quality,affordable vehicles.SolutionThe BMC Remedy IT Service ManagementSuite serves as the software framework formanaging the interactions and process relationships across IT service support disciplines, enabling the IT staff to respond quickly toincidents and keep critical systems runningsmoothly. Results :> Staffing requirements dropped 20 percent> Desktop-related calls dropped 40 percent> Server support calls dropped 8 percent> Software paid for itself within one yearTata Motors Ltd. Scales up IT Service Managementto Support Globalizationcustomer success storyTata Motors Ltd. PUTTING BMC SOLUTIONS TO WORKBMC provided visibility into the entirety of services components across business processchains. It also integrated the various IT service management disciplines into a single, unifiedsolution, Mitra says.TML started with the out-of-the-box capabilities of the BMC Remedy IT Service ManagementSuite to establish a baseline of the IT application and infrastructure landscape across all technology pillars. The company used the applications embedded ITIL-compatible controls withoutmodification to define roles, responsibilities, and authorities required in the support groups.TML realized immediate benefits from the transition to the BMC applications, which served asthe software framework for managing the interactions and process relationships among all thesupport groups managing the IT infrastructure underlying business services. A service-orientedorganizational structure was designed and configured in the BMC Remedy applications. Mitraworked with two vendors to recast processes to achieve a business service orientation.A major innovation in the configuration is the use of logical architectural definitions for thesupport group infrastructure. Logical role names for technical support staff login allowed uniformity of definitions across the entire support community regardless of whether the employeeis internal to TML or outsourced. The naming convention encompasses competency levels that enable the incident coordinatorto assign tickets based on complexity. This feature has real value in a multisite support groupwhere names by themselves mean very little. Service managers can now plan staffing on thebasis of competencies and have a transparent view of support staff effort and load acrosslocations.SERVICE-ORIENTED AGREEMENTS :As CIO, Mitras goal was to measure the availability and effectiveness of service in terms thatthe customers could recognize not from the perspective of the diverse technology components and technology pillars that comprise the service (as it had in the past). BMC Service LevelManagement provided the high level of transparency required to construct and support servicelevel agreements (SLAs) that are described purely in business terms.Service requests among support groups managing different domains were put in place and anew set of agreements were defined and tested. The concept of subtickets was introduced tominimize ticket bounces. The transparency that this introduced improved collaboration amongsupport groups.BMC Service Level Management has allowed us to consolidate and track multiple service windows across the country, streamline our vendor contracts, and enhance our ability to conductmeaningful contract reviews that focus on improvement, says Mr. S. Dole, Tata Technologiespractice manager for system integration and networking.A SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT FOR IT SERVICES:TML used BMC Remedy Service Desk and the end-user console to establish an outsourced ITservice desk that is the single point of contact between the IT user community and the IT service providers. This new service desk consolidated more than 25 different help desks across thecountry, making it simple and straightforward for users to get assistance and report problems. This also helps to project a single unified face of IT to the customers although multiple IT serviceproviders are involved in the complete services to the customer. An innovative, segregation-of-duties approach ensures that the vendor providing a particular service is not also responsible for tracking and reporting on that service. This was done by creatinga special group within the IT service desk for ensuring satisfactory closure of tickets and monitoring status of paused tickets. TML is required to be SOX compliant. Statutory requirementsfor ensuring segregation of responsibilities were met by allocating responsibilities for recording, classification, and routing by one vendor, and closing verification, customer satisfactionassurance, and performance reporting by another. The service desk design and the flexibility of configuration features available in the BMC applications have given us a lot of peace of mind, Dole says. By segregating responsibilities for incident response and incident closure verification, we can ensure that the service performancereports from our vendors have the reliability and accuracy required for stakeholders to agreeon service levels achieved. This goes a long way in our ability to manage multiple third-partyvendors in a transparent and effective manner.
