Raychem’s Miniplex Universal Digital Channel(UDC) 4N1 system helps telephone companiesmeet the growing demand for new access linesdelivering multiple plain old telephone service(POTS)lines without installing additional coppercable. The Miniplex UDC 4N1 system uses standard 2B1Q digital encoding to carry fourvoice-grade 64 Kbps quality analog circuits overan existing non-loaded cable pair. The system consists of a line card housed in a central officeterminal and a remote terminal located at the subscriber(s) site. The system is powered from thecentral office to avoid using batteries in the remoteterminal (RT).

ApplicationsThe Miniplex UDC 4N1 system transports existingPOTS lines while creating spare copper pairs inthe congested feeder and distribution plant. This can create pairs for ADSL applications or other special services without major capital projects or intricate station transfer.

Telcos can upgrade by installing Miniplex UDC4N1 systems to replace analog-carrier technologysuch as AML or 8 Channel. Unlike analogcarriers, Miniplex UDC 4N1 systems are spectrum

compatible with digital services in the same cable. The UDC 4N1 system is completely compatiblewith Group 3 fax, adaptive rate modems, multi-line sets and answering machines.

Remote terminal choices

The Miniplex NID remote terminal provides asealed electronics package, station protection, andRJ-11 demarcation/customer wiring terminals in astandard six-line Siecor 7600 NID housing. The Miniplex DooRT remote terminal replacesthe original door of the Siecor 7600 NID andconverts the standard NID unit to a remote terminal.

The Miniplex SupeRT remote terminal may bestrand, pole, stake, or wall-mounted for flexibility in installation. The indoor remote terminal can be used in apartment wiring closetsand other environmentally protected applicationswhere space is at a premium. The pedestal remoteterminal can be used in a standard pedestal and isenvironmentally hardened. Also available, but notshown, is the Keptel 4600XL remote terminal.Other NIDS are available on request.

The new Multi-Channel 12 and 24 cabinets can beused for high-density applications servingneighborhoods, apartment buildings, commercial sites or malls.
