Trip Abroad

Following the recent disengagement of 22, 000 primary school teachers that left many schools without teachers, the Kaduna State Government announced plans to extend the duration of school term to cover time lost. The Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Malam Ja'afaru Sani, made this known at a press conference in Kaduna.Sani noted that the sacking of the 22, 000 teachers who failed the competency test in January, left many primary schools with one or two teachers and in some cases without a single teacher.According to him, the ministry along with the State Universal Basic Education Board are considering extending daily lesson hours, including Saturdays."If at the end we still do not cover the syllabus, we will have to extend the term until we cover the lost time." He explained that the recruitment exercise for new teachers was taking this long because the screening was rigorous to ensure only the best are recruited. He, however, said that the final screening of the 15, 879 teachers will be concluded on Friday, adding that the successful applicants would be inducted on Monday."After the induction, the new teachers will be posted to schools based on needs, with particular emphasis on schools with shortage of teachers and in rural areas.

Akutson said the 50,000 entrepreneurs would be produced under the KADEVS initiative with the first batch of 250 women drawn from the 23 Local government Areas of the state and KASU Community.According to him, the initiative is a noble solution to the growing unemployment challenge in the state and country at large.“Our goal is to train Kaduna state women and youths to become entrepreneurs, who in turn will train others on how to identify community challenges and turn such challenges into business ventures. In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Muhammad Tanko, reiterated the institution's commitment to reduce the rate of unemployment in the state.Tanko said the programme was aimed at helping the participants to realize their potentials and capacity to create jobs for themselves.“This is an opportunity for our youths to realise their potential and identify opportunities that can benefit their communities and the society. There is no doubt that entrepreneurship is the solution to our economic problems and programmes, like this are ways through which the potential of entrepreneurship development could be tapped.''The vice chancellor thanked the state government for supporting the university to run the programme. The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Alh. Ja'afaru Sani, commended the centre for coming up with the initiative that will reduce unemployment and complement the efforts of government in building a stronger economy.

The Commissioner called on the good people of Kaduna state to cooperate with the state government and be understanding as it takes bold decisions aimed at repositioning the state from its slumber status to greatness where the rich and the poor, minority and the majority would be treated fairly and equally.

he Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has begun a two-day induction training for T27,000 public primary school teachers in the state.

The Executive Chairman of the board, Malam Nasiru Umar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that the participants included 15,409 newly-recruited teachers and 11,591 old ones.Umar said that the training would be held in 254 centres across the 23 local government areas of the state. He further explained that the objective of the training was to equip the new and the old teachers with the needed skills for effective classroom management and quality teaching to create the desired impact.Nasiru said that the induction was a crucial step to welcome particularly the new teachers into the teaching profession.According to him, the step is necessary because although the teachers have NCE and B. Ed. Certificates, they may lack the needed teaching experience for effective teaching.“Similarly, the old teachers also need to be equipped with modern teaching methods that are qualitative, effective and guarantee learning.''He said that the new teachers would be posted to schools immediately after the training based on areas of need. The chairman said that after the induction, the head teachers would also be trained on effective school management. At Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Maiduguri Road, Kaduna, one of the induction centres, the board's Permanent Secretary, Shehu Raubilu, urged the teachers to be teachers and not cheaters.Rabilu also urged them to be role models, saying “If you are good, the society will be good; if you are bad, the society will be bad.''Umar Aliyu, the Education Secretary, Kaduna North Local Government Area, also urged the new teachers to give their best and support the state government to provide quality education to primary school pupils in the state.
