KEY FINDINGS
4. Large percentage of overstocked facilities were:
a) Majority were Government and PNFP facilities
b) Over stocked commodities were mainly Depo-provera at 51% , Sulfadoxine Pyrimethamine at 41% and ACT (24 pack) at 40%
5. Commodities that stocked out were mainly Nevirapine 50mg at 68%, TB (RHZE and RH) at 55%, Misoprostol at 63%, Statpak and Unigold at 54% and 59% respectively
6. Redistribution of overstocked commodities at facility level can bring stock levels to; 6MoS for Depo-provera, 3 MoS for ACT's and 4MOS for Sulfadoxine/ Pyrimethamine tablet
2. Overall average percentage availability for the basket of 41 commodities was 88% and percentage of facilities with over 95% availability was 64% ; this was maintained as
from the previous quarter
3. Percentage of facilities with over 95% was highest for TB medicines at 75% (1322 / 1763) and lowest for RMNCAH at 57% (2216/3887)
lists of facilities that are overstocked and stocked out so that they can work with the
respective DHO's to oversee redistribution of these commodties and write to NMS to halt
supply of overstocked commodities to facilities that receive Kits
4. PD and RH division to streamline the procurement, distribution and monitoring of
reproductive health commodities
1. Overall, facility reporting rates decreased to 53%(3349/6362) from 64% (4021/6318) in the previous quarter of October-December 2016
ACTION POINTS
1. Pharmacy Department to follow up on non- reporting facilities through phone calls,
text messages on the PIP platform as a reminder to improving reporting rate

Definition : This indicator measures the % of health facilities that reported having the basket of commodities available during the reporting period.
The report shows the availability of the different and overall baskets using two indicators i.e.
1) Average percentage availability of a basket of 41 commodities based on all reporting facilities in the previous quarter
Definition : Availability is measured as the number of days for which a specific commodity was in stock at the facility store during the reporting period.
2) Percentage of facilities that had over 95% availability of a basket of commodities in the previous quarter
This bi-monthly report on the facility stock status of the 41 tracer items (in different baskets) provides information about the stock situation of health facilities in the country
in order to inform the Ministry of Health and all stakeholders to make appropriate logistics decisions that ensure an effective health commodities supply chain.
The report shows the number and percentages of facilities that are appropriately stocked, over stocked or under stocked by level of care and ownership based on
The MOS highlights the number of months a product will last based on the present consumption rate.
It also further indicates facilities that have over 8 months of stock (MOS) broken down by level of care and ownership.

Months of Stock
The median stock on hand for the over stocked (>8MOS) push facilities was 28,080 tablets (1652 doses).
The median AMC of ACTs at HC4s, General Hospitals and Regional Referral Hospitals were 4680, 2997 and 26,640 respectively.
Therefore; computing MOS using the above figures; we find that the stock at push facilities (with over 8 MOS) translates into: 6 MOS at HC4s; 9 MOS at General Hospitals and 1 MOS at RRHs
