• Overall– To provide for the protection, conservation and wise
management of Ontario’s environment – Air, land and water
• Water– Protect drinking water and fresh water resource and
for their efficient and sustainable use

Required Cs of A for Establishing an Anaerobic Digestion Facility (AD)
• Approval under Part V of the Environmental Protection Act (EPA)– AD uses only agricultural waste → exempt– Regulated mixed AD → exempt– AD that is not in the above two categories → requires C of A
• Approval under the:– Environmental Assessment Act (EAA)– Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA); and,
– Section 9 of the EPA (air approval)
